In fact, that's the expectation amongst big UT boosters...at least the ones I can get info from. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Pearl receive a show-casue penalty...effectively ending his college coaching career. He lied to the NCAA, and they do not like that.
I agree
"Tennessee punished Pearl by reducing his salary by $1.5 million over four seasons and banning him from off-campus recruiting for a year. The SEC punished him with an eight-game suspension, which he has served."
But the recruiting ban was delayed until he could make a trip to Memphis to try and sign AT.
And the 8 game suspension was delayed until the SEC ramped up.
And the $1.5 mil can be made up easily in the next contract.
The gutless actions by the UT admin and the SEC was nothing sort of thumbing their nose at the NCAA. And BP, who has been in the position before, continues to use language like "misled." The dufus lied about a picture taken in his own house and with one of his assistants in the picture. They even gave him a chacne to "rethink" his answer and he still said he didn't recognoze the location.
And when did he fess up? Only after finding out that-
1. The NCAA had him not only for the violation but for several counts of lying to them. and,
2. He took the time to call the athletes family and try to blame them for comng to his house.
He knew what he was doing was wrong. Been there done that.
He knew he was caught and still lied.
He tried to cover it up by soliciting lies from the family.
Then he feel on a rubber sword as did UT.
If the NCAA does not hammer UT and Pearl personally then they need to close up shop and quit. Whatever smidgen of integrity they claim will be completly gone.
