There is no comparison in the amount of help Battier will be to the Grizz compared to Thabeet. Which is sad considering what they passed up on draft night to get Thabeet.

The Grizzlies can't draft anyway. Rudy, Mike, Marc and Zbo are your main guys. Everyone else will be a a role player. So likely they would've drafted someone terrible. Great job getting rid of Thabeet!

Very smart idea. 2011 draft is considered weak, especially in the high teens where we'll be slotted. First rounders are guaranteed money. Use it to resign Zach and Marc. Vernon is also reporting possible trade OJ Mayo to Indiana for Josh McRoberts and the Pacers 1st round pick. We'll see.

OJ trade has been reported in the CA too. I don't understand this one but I do love unloading Thabeet and a pick for Battier.

They should have traded Mayo the day they decided to give Gay a big contract. Mayo has lost a lot of trade value lately.

sweeet! Batt-man's comin back and no more sorry-a$$ thabeet! I like OJ n he'll kinda be missed but McRoberts is actually pretty good and former dookie like Shane plus we get a 1st rounder. NICE!

I don't follow the Grizz (other than headlines in the CA) - nor the NBA for that matter - but when I saw they threw in a first rounder too I was kind of scratching my head, but this makes good business sense to save that first round money to put on Zbo, Gay or whoever else coming up for free agency.

Hope Battier's still serviceable on the court beyond this year. If so, and if we're able to resign Randolph, we have quite a triumvirate face of the franchise in the community -- Battier, Randolph, and Gay. Not too bad. We all know what Battier does off the court, Randolph has donated money to pay the utilities of needy Memphians, and Gay has been enlisted to judge Tiger dunk contests and help welcome Mitsubishi.
