This is a huge risk for a program that has had two recent coaching situations handled poorly. Fulmer was true orange and was proud to put on that XXXXL orange shirt everyday and they just canned him after a couple bad seasons when he brought them the future NFL all time greatest player and a National Title for the first time in 40 yrs. Then they hire a prick with no ties to their university that just pisses off the entire SEC East in one week and then bolts for greener pastures. Now they hire a guy that could be a great hire but has coached at one of the lowest levels of D1 coaching without having to deal with the issues and strain of a major program. I think it would have served Dooley better in the long run to take a job such as ECU and prove his worth rather than go straight for the SEC East but on his behalf, when they come knocking, you answer.

Yeah - it is not Dooley's fault. You don't pass up the UTK job if you are him. This will either be a resounding success or an epic failure. There is really no in-between. He will be on a short leash & have a lot to prove.

Poor La Tech....they have to hire an Athletic Director and a football coach. I wonder if they have any recruits that are worth a damn?

I dont blame Derek at all and actually hope he does well but going from a program in northern LA that no one outside the state of LA and the WAC has ever heard of to a program that demands SEC titles in a conference that has produced arguably the two best teams in college football the last two seasons is a huge task. The fan base is constantly demanding more and are quite loyal to UTK despite the immaturity and sometimes utter idiocy. Another scary thing about this is i would guess 75% of the entire fanbase has never heard his name until today. Hes going to be on an extremely short leash and dont think they wont be riding his tail if he doesnt beat Florida next season in Neyland despite the utter stupidy of thinking they can pull it off.

If anyone really thinks that Derek Dooley would rather coach here than at Tennessee then you are sadly mistaken. Their is no debate which is the better job........UT

If I was a TENN fan, I would be a hell of a lot happier with this then Cutcliffe who was rumored yesterday to be their man.

All I can say is this board was fully against hiring Dooley at Memphis. I cannot imagine how the UTK boards are reacting. I may have to go check that out.

I graduated from both schools so I think that gives me every right to pull for both teams............IN ALL SPORTS.

Thats more than I'm sure alot can say on this board, some of which who have probably never even stepped foot on campus, just the fedex forum.
