No, we did not offer Dooley, but Dooley was reported to be interested. And I don't see how you could say LA Tech and its conference is a lateral move to Memphis, even in football.

I sometimes wonder why you are so negative about most things Memphis. Not trying to start anything, just seems curious.

In my opinion, CUSA is not much better a football conference. Nor is our football head coaching position that much better than la tech. Yes, it might have potential, but you cant name many coaches who coached here and went on to be very successful head football coaches.

Ive got no reason to be negative about memphis, this board just irritates me sometimes with the way things get hyped up and are overexagerated on here. That's all.

I sadly have to agree with you. Living in Alabama for the past gives me somewhat of an "outside" perspective - Memphis and LA Tech football are, more or less, seen in the same light and are expected to put up about the same level of resistance when playing an SEC team. Living around Memphis sometimes give fans an unrealistic perspective of how our team is perceived. Now, Memphis BB is another story.

Yep, sounds familiar. Funny to read from this perspective. Memphis was blessed! Looks like Tennessee is trying to self-destruct. Understand their pain, hope we do not revisit it anytime soon. Evidently they don't like their AD either.

I was told by someone familiar with Tennessee that Cutliff was offered the job but was told that he had to keep two individuals on the staff that he did not want to keep. He said no and then Tennessee withdrew the offer. They then went to Chicago to talk with Luvie and he told Tennesse no so they then went to Dooley. Third hand information but that is what I was told.

So, there's going to be an AD vacancy at LA Tech...someone let RC know asap.

you cannot argue with the idea of hiring Cutcliffe.
Their offense was really good when he was there the first time.
He made Erik Ainge look like a good quarterback after Tennessee stumbled..firing Randy Sanders as OC.
The two years he came back in his second stint, they won a SEC East title, and went bowling twice.

DURHAM, N.C.. — Football coach David Cutcliffe is staying at Duke.

Amid reports that he was a candidate for the opening at Tennessee, the two-time Volunteers assistant coach said Friday he would remain with the Blue Devils.

“After much thought and consideration, Karen and I reached the decision that Duke is the place for our family,” Cutcliffe said in a statement issued through the school.

Because of his deep-rooted connections to the Southeastern Conference and the Volunteers’ program, Cutcliffe was considered one of the obvious choices to replace Lane Kiffin, who left abruptly this week for Southern California.

“We have both family members and lifetime friends in the Knoxville community and share a deep respect for the University of Tennessee,” he said. “Our ties to the school and the eastern Tennessee area are obvious. But before Tennessee’s hiring process comes to a conclusion, I know that Duke University is where we want to coach.”

I just heard the guy at Utah turned them down, too, although I don't know if that's accurate.

He's 17-20 in 3 seasons at La Tech, and 12-12 in the WAC. Wow.

I don't think Cutcliffe turned it down. I think Hamilton got cold feet based on the fanbase response. He may do it with Dooley, too, before it becomes official.
