Sorry to get off topic. You wouldn't believe the hatred they have for this man on the TCU "General" board. I'm shocked at the statements. No wonder I was hated so much on that board and eventually banned after 5 years of posting. This is amazing:

I'm not saying that people have to react in a good manner, just that I don't think people all have to all of a sudden respect him after he spent his life saying how they are immoral. Some people choose to take the high road, other choose to take the path of gut emotion.

Do you respect Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?

...but many on the left do, including Democratic politicians. So, it's a bit hypocritical when I see some of the posts on DU. I don't give a damn about any of'em.

Agreed, Have you read Christopher Hitchens' most recent piece? It is as angry and vitriolic as any of his stuff, but has a great point that by putting Rev. in front of your name you can get away with saying stuff that would otherwise get you laughed at and/or shunned. He also calls out Sharpton at the end of the piece.
And since you brought him up, I'm interested in seeing how the right reacts when Sharpton finally goes on to meet his maker. I'm guessing we won't see many fawning over what great acts he did during his saintly life. Look, when you delve into politics and die, not everyone can look back and see only the good things. Some will only see the bad. The truth is in this case is probably close to the middle. Sure Falwell did some great stuff with charities, but he also got into politics, said some really offensive stuff and ticked a lot of people off on the way. It's hard to act surprised when it turns out that he isn't loved and adored by all.

Endzone2 Wrote:What if a believer just decides to go to topless bars for the rest of his life instead of doing God's will in that area of his life? I guess it would get very black and white if a believer decided to take the mark of the beast in the end times. The Bible says that those who do that wont be saved. That's why I think "once saved always saved" can be dangerous. Those words aren't in the Bible. Again, not trying to be argumentative or an @ss.
find some articles on "Christian Liberty", reformed.org probably has some good one's.
I think you can be sinful till the end(as I'm sure Falwell was, but probably not strip clubs in his case) and still go to heaven, thats different than outright rejection of the Bible and the Triune God..............I wouldn't want to be in a strip club during Christ return though
my biggest issue with Falwell is his Pre-mil stuff., that is not biblical imo

Quote:the Philosopher/Prophet, Dr. Scheaffer, predicted back in the 60's the Activist movement of today, basically said it was a Philosophy.......anyway, Falwell has a quote somewhere that he says basically people hate him but they really hate the Bible/God which he is just repeating what it says, which takes guts in our culture.
That's what I think too. And Jesus plainly said, "if they hate me they will hate you too".

Falwell said some bonehead things, but who hasn't. he's not any more judgemental than people like Hitchens judging him(on moral grounds no less) , most of Falwells bonehead words came from his pre-millenial theology, which I don't think is biblical.(i.e. saying the antichrist is coming and will be a Jew).
that said, people get their feathers ruffled to easily and sometimes take things to be hateful that weren't said in a hateful manner., I think it goes back to the feminization of our culture that started a century ago.....
on a sports related note, I was flipping through the channels a few weeks ago on sunday night and stopped on Falwells "Old time gospel hour" or whatever and Bobby Bowden was speaking, bowden is a good guy and speaker.

Understandable.
In the future, when a public figure that I vehemently disagreed with passes away, if I make a post rejoicing in their death, feel free to call me on it.
EDIT: I think grammar died when I typed the sentence above.

Well, I remember the crap that I saw coming from the Right when Molly Ivins died, and she was just a writer.
BTW, did you rejoice at the death of grammar?
