I live in NC, John Edwards is our senator and I can tell you right now, he's not looked on favorably. He does not have the ability to carry any southern state for Kerry. Edwards couldnt' win reelection in his own state, who couldn't carry his own state in the primaries.
I live here, have all my life and I know southern politics. Kerry could run Robert E. Lee on his ticket and still not carry a southern state.
Edwards will do nothing for him down here, bank on it.
I live in NC as well, and I agree that having Edwards on the ticket won't help Kerry win NC, but he's probably already calculated that regardless of who he chose, he wouldn't carry NC, and I don't think NC is a "swing" state...
I'll even say that I have serious reservations about Kerry's "public service" record, having only served one term, and arguably, not that well...
That said...
I do agree with the original poster's views about Kerry appeal to women, something I didn't think about when I initially heard the announcement.
Forcing Bush to spent time in the South where Edwards is wooing the female vote, while Kerry is focusing on the Midwest is actually not a bad strategy, especially if Kerry can present a viable strategy on creating jobs. All this outsourcing stuff is going to do more harm to Bush than Kerry, IMHO.
A debate between a trial lawyer (Edwards) and an arrogant crook (Cheney)...? I'll be happy to call Vegas and put some bills on Edwards, especially if he's armed with evidence to prove Cheney's the lying type I think he is... "sorry, Mr. Veep, we've YET to discover WMDs in Iraq, nor do we have any proof to back your claims that Bin Laden and Saddam are tied together..."
If Edwards digs into the Veeps "Haliburton" ties, and the fact its revenue went up significantly as a result of the Iraq invasion, , Cheney's in deep **** here. Cheney may have more years of "government" experience, but I think Edwards can use that to his advantage...
