Alright, here's another pointless but fun thread since I'm bored...

Put together an All-Time team of the best players from your favorite team. Fill all eight positions, plus a righthanded starter, a lefthanded starter, a closer, and a manager. I'll do the Braves (Atlanta only). BTW, more than one person can do the same team if they want.

C- Javy Lopez
One of the top hitting catchers of the '90's.

1B- Fred McGriff
A consistent 30 HR, 100 RBI man.

2B- Glenn Hubbard
One of the best fielding second basemen I've ever seen.

SS- Rafael Furcal
Who else would it be? Jeff Blauser

3B- Terry Pendleton
1991 NL MVP and a great clubhouse leader

LF- Chipper Jones
1999 NL MVP and a great clutch hitter.

CF- Dale Murphy
One of the best hitters of his era.

RF- Hank Aaron
All-Time home run king.

RHP- Greg Maddux
Probably the best pitcher since WWII.

LHP- Tom Glavine
Won 2 Cy Young awards in Atlanta

Closer- John Smoltz
100 saves in 2 full season closing.

Manager- Bobby Cox
Has led the Braves to an incredible 12 straight division titles.

Interesting. None of the Astros fans like Bob Watson as one of their outfielders.

Watson primarily played first base, I didn't really think about putting him in the outfield.

Cool thread

Orioles

C- Chris Hoiles
1B - Boog Powell
2B - Roberto Alomar - He was only here for 3 years but it was probably the 3 best years of his career and we really havent had any other notable second basemen
SS - Cal Ripken
3B - Brooks Robinson
LF - Brady Anderson
CF - Paul Blair
RF - Frank Robinson
DH - Harold Baines
RHP - Jim Palmer
LHP - Dave McNally
RP - Gregg Olson
M - Earl Weaver

There were some really tough choices, a lot of people would probably put Eddie Murray at 1st over Boog and Rick Dempsey over Hoiles as the catcher. Also Don Baylor could be the DH but he didnt get really good until after he left the Orioles.

I almost wanted to put Al Bumbry in LF and move Brady to center and leave Paul Blair off but Blair did win 8 gold gloves.

Hmmm.
HF4L, I think I'd leave Big Klu off--he played 1B almost exclusively anyway and can't displace Tony P at 1B. I'd also drop Helms and move Pete to 3B like they did in '75. Then I'd add George Foster in LF and Frank Robinson in RF.
Personally, I'd want Davey Concepcion at SS, though the numbers say Larkin.
RHP--Jim Maloney
LHP--let's take Joe Nuxhall, just for the hell of it. Nobody's going to beat us anyway, no matter who we throw out there. :)
For pitching, seriously, you could do a lot worse than Paul Derringer and Ewell "The Whip" Blackwell, too, from the 1939-40 teams. Doesn't even count double no-hit Johnny VanDermeer, who was a bit of a flash in the pan. Used to hear my dad and grandfather talk about them...
Relief--I like the Hawk, but the Nasty Boys were, well, nasty. Throw in Dibble in his prime.

Super thread!

I think fans of Bob Gibson and Sandy Koufax might disagree.

Maybe. They didn't have to pitch in the days of juiced balls, steroids and smaller ballparks. Don't get me wrong, I think Gibson and Koufax were great pitchers, though. I should have phrased that differently. Maddux was the best pitcher I've ever seen. I didn't see Koufax and Gibson pitch.

i would have to disagree. My giants have the best outfield, right side of the infield, and pitching and bresnahan was better than hoiles.

Also, GDawgs, you should do the All Time Braves, not just the all time atlanta braves.
