and did you use 7.2 or 7.667 for IP??
seems funny that my number is wrong, but is used to figure out the most important pitching stat in the game...

this is how....
4 * 9 / 7.2 = 5 ERA
4 * 9 / 7.667 = 4.70 ERA (the correct ERA)
I'm just trying to prove that the way I wrote it wasn't wrong...

when i did mine, i did it my head by the way which explains why I was a little off, I took 7 innings worth of outs or 21 added 2 to get 23 total outs. Then I divided by 4, and did a raio to get up to 27 outs.

actually 7.3 is definitely wrong. Talk about stubborn. every self respecting baseball fan in America will tell you that 7.1 is the correct way to write 7 and 1/3 innings. I know it's mathematically wrong, but who cares, because math sucks anyway.

Saying a pitcher through 7.1 innings has nothing to do with math or ERA calculations. It is just the accepted way of stating the stat.

I completely agree with that... I know it is the accepted way for baseball, I've played/watched baseball for 16 years.
I'm just trying to find ways that show the way I used the ip stat wasn't wrong.

Wouldnt it be 6.3 (with bar notation) innings pitched if you really want to get exact with math?
