Dr. Torch: You are right, ADs should insist that the head coach should have a successor in training, but what I really don't understand is why the majority of MAC ADs don't have a clause in the head coach's contract that would call for a buy-out or some such reciprocal agreement such as a 1 for 1 or 2 for 2 agreement with the school that signs & gets the head coach. BGSU has such an agreement in coach Brandon's contract. However, most MAC ADs are sadly remiss in this fundamental approach towards achieving those badly needed home game with BCS opponents. Miami fans are hoping to get a game with Indiana at Indiana, or even a two for one, but with some foresight by AD Brad Bates, they could have had a 1 for 1 or 2 for 2 with a possible home game for that open slot on their 2007 schedule, simply by being astute & including this type clause in coach Hoeppner's contract. I wonder if there is such a clause in new head coach Montgomery's contract? WKU's head bb coach Dennis Felton had this type clause in his contract when he left for Georgia, and now they enjoy the benefit of a 2 for 2 with Georgia. Up untill this point it has been almost impossible to get top 50 BB programs to travel to Diddle arena for an away game. WKU beat Georgia at Georgia this past season, and will play them at home this year. a-zip is right, coachs will disapear and be signed by bigger conference schools, but by being alert the ADs can and should gain something from it. NIU007, you are right, road games are a huge disadvantage, but by holding out for what's fair, just maybe this small simple step will help level the playing field.

Photodan Wrote:Until you rebut my assertion (that we don't get enough exposure) with more than, "The MAC gets a lot..." and "I'm sure other MAC teams had plenty of T.V. time.", I'm afraid I can't even take it seriously. Show some supporting data.
I know we were on TV seven times last year but that is far from normal. It's what I call a good start.
NIU was on national TV 3 times last year and 7 other games were on Fox Sports Chicago or Comcast when they took over (not the local like in Michigan, but the Chicago Comcast that does the Cubs, Sox, Bulls and were supposed to do the Blackhawks-that you can get on the dish nationally). Not bad coverage in the nation's 3rd largest market with over 100K NIU alums around. With all the home games on TV, NIU still averaged about 98% of capacity (27,000+).

Ever been to Huntington? You'd want out, too.
BTW, I don't think they brought 5K to DeKalb last time in. But then again, I used to work with WVA folk in a factory in the summers of 1966 and 1967--and a lot them home for the weekend--from Chicago (they missed the "hollers").

They had 500 in DeKalb, maybe.

exCincy Kid1 Wrote:Guys, be realistic......the BCS boyz have a 10 to 1 economic advantage over non-BCS programs......you simply can't compete day in and day out with the built-in disadvantage which affects exposure, recruiting, facilities, coaching salaries, you name it. I get sick and tired of that same old crap from the anti-MAC naysayers that the MAC is "content to live in the shadow of the B10". Say what? Take a little looksie at Ohio States' athletic department budget, fellows. It's a frickn' miracle that MAC teams do whip up on the BCS boyz as much as they do.
Check out what a B10 coach makes vs. a MAC coach. At Miami, we're proud of our current $13MM stadium renovation, and yes, it's very nice. At Wisconsin, they are finishing up a $100 MM renovation, and they aren't even adding seats (except for indoor luxury loges). Kind of back to my 10 to 1 argument.
Ok, exCincyKid, you're generalizing. Not all the autobid BCS boys have a 10 to 1 advantage over the MAC, C-USA, or anybody else for that matter. There are two reasons why Ohio State gets such a huge amount of cash:
1. They are the principle flagship university for the state of Ohio
2. Ohio State is located in a fairly populated & prosperous state.
Take away those two things, and Ohio State would resemble Pitt in the BE, or Mississippi State in the SEC (hardly worldbeaters in the autobid BCS world). The same is true for Wisconsin.

RE: What's holding us back?
The MAC rarely has knocked off good or great BCS teams. The MAC defenses are not on the par with the offenses in the Conference. A mediocre BCS team is capable of beating the MAC's best when they meet.Until this changes the MAC will not get proper respect.
