I don't think Vance has ANY shot. He's not likeable, at all. And he will be saddled with all the trump baggage unless he manages to distance himself which won't be easy. If he tries, trump will bury him out of spite.

Rubio is much more likeable...but he'll also have to shed his pathetic sell-out to trump.

Vance has already started distancing himself from Trump, and two years is a long time for whatever to happen. I do think the Repubs may need to trot out someone that hasn't been under Trump's umbrella, but again, two years is a long time away and who knows what may happen between now and then.

Maybe Ron Desantis or Glenn Youngkin (or even both of them on the same ticket) would fit the bill.

I do not consider Rubio under Trumps umbrella. He has a long distinguished history in the senate. Problem is that Trump is gonna trash ANYBODY and EVERYBODY he does not personally endorse in the primary. Then if his candidate loses, you will trash the republican nominee out of spite. This is a personality disorder and one republicans are gonna have to deal with. Trump better remember that if he tarnishes the republican chances of winning in 2028, his pardons which I assume he will hand out to himself, his entire family, as well as his entire staff, can only be retroactive. The democrats perfected lawfare and political persecutions. You do not want the fascists in power and complete control of Washington, and that is what will happen with the DSA. They will throw him and his family in jail for jay walking. Of course, when the dems do it, they will taught out the phrase, nobody is above the law....... like the suddenly had amnesia of that phrase over the past 2 years.

Personally, the dems are too smug to actually build on their victories. If they were smart, they would work with Trump to pass legislation. However, they are gonna just do investigations, impeach, and impeach. Nothing will get done. The American public, the ones with any brains left, should vote them out after the circus they are about to unleash over the next 2 years.

"The prog filth won't do one damn thing they promised. They never do." Shere

...and then blame Trump. This political stuff is nothing but a blame game. I wish I could distance myself from politics but when I don't have many "hobbies" I have to deal with it as I see it in every media I go to. Before my wife got ill, I was too busy having fun to give two Schiffs about politics and politicians. *sigh*

RE: Silver lining thread
Everyone thinks every election is the end of the world. This board (and panicky dems too) were telling me America had swung because Trump won by like 2% nationally in a time where everywhere across the world incumbent parties were getting rejected. 2 years later it's a dem +12-13 elections, which hasn't happened in 50+ years.

Neither party is particularly popular right now. So, if you're looking for a positive there is that. Dems benefitted from some very specific choices Trump made, and honestly Trump didn't seem to really even try to pretend to care about the cost issue. Trump's superpower was with rural whites (not the only part of the Trump coalition mind you) where he ran up massive margins each time he won. Rural whites were by far the hardest hit by gas/diesel prices and tariffs (everyone was hit by food and other inflation honestly wasn't that bad). Republicans still won big with rural whites but the obscene margins weren't so obscene anymore. As a pragmatic independent that mostly votes democrat, I think the long term success of the democratic party is tied to at least maintaining (even better building) on the reversion to pretrump with rural whites... but that is far from a given... if republicans can rebuild that coalition which really shifted due to very specific to them issues than there could be a big shift sooner rather than later.

You want gridlock, it prevents the truly evil from taking over (checks & balances).

Now they have to govern & we all know how that goes (pendulum will swing back).

But that felt like a once-in-a-generation beatdown. How come Democrats turn out & vote no matter who, but Republicans if his smile is a bit off, they stay home?

I don't think the platform itself is inherently awful, there's actually a ton to like, but the party's road map to accomplish that was more or less state solutions instead of the market fixing itself. We as Republicans need to go back to being small government Republicans again. I think everyone in this board realizes we need to produce sht again.

The Party will definitely have to turn to someone outside of the current admin if they want yo win POTUS in 2028.

Just the typical ebb and flow when the incumbent in the WH becomes deeply unpopular due to broken promises and poor execution. We'll have gridlock.

If this wave was contained to typical battleground states, I'd agree with you. The tsunami crept into Texas, South Carolina, Kansas, Mississippi and Iowa. This is a complete rejection of MAGA.

As a Republican, Trump has governed like Bush his 2nd term. The beatdown was not a rejection of MAGA but neo-conseratism Trump's followed & nobody likes that

It’s a result of 50 years of the American education system and the bombardment of the progressive message in our culture. Ebbs and flows don’t result in what last night was. Remember, the red wave never materialized and the blue wave was more than anticipated. It’s a growing shift in the country. We’re just falling in line behind Europe.

Yesterday was a pretty normal off year election. Obama lost 63 house seats, and 7 senate seats.

do I like the results? No. Is it pretty average? Yes.
I would prefer that we not bring in socialist and communist. Also would prefer

senators who don't support Muslim brotherhood.

The silver lining is my prediction back in 2020 (which everyone laughed at) that Trump will be the next Jimmy Carter appears to be proving right. https://csnbbs.com/thread-909719.html

I think that's a fair point. Ans Trump has been a horrific wartime POTUS to boot. He's either receiving bad advice from the Pentagon or our allies, or he's just ignoring it. Because his plan is just to bomb Iran into a deal instead of doing what's necessary to win a war, meanwhile Iran is just fighting a war of attrition and biding their time.

To be honest, the US hasn’t done what’s necessary to win a war since FDR.
