tommie's problem can be boiled down into one word: Idealism.

He holds a view of the world as he wishes it to be, not as it is. It's how 17-, 18-, and 19-year-olds act. tommie should be much farther along in his development by now, but those who fail to shed their idealism by the time they've left college at least are what we now know as progressives. "Progressives" is simply another word they chose to redefine.

I'm a bit of an idealist myself, and I'm a right winger.

Unless members of Congress get a pass on it, I've never heard of anyone getting a security pass (Confidential, Secret, Top Secret) without having an FBI background check done beforehand. I've had several of them done during my decades of having a clearance. The clearance is only good for a few years and has to constantly be renewed by filling out the extensive paperwork with references and data before signing and sending the form in. Last one that I did took several hours to complete filling out the form. There is a lot of dates and data that you need to look up and fill in. Obviously, you don't want to get something on there that is incorrect. Once submitted, it takes the FBI a good amount of time to do the investigation of your paperwork.

^Rank has its priviledges. I think Hatch lost TS information while out in public. I don't think anything really happened to him. We had a guy put secret information in the recycle bin by accident during a fire drill. He lost his job and clearance. That being said, it seems they have many avenues to yeet this pirate.

The majority of people, though not all, lose their idealistic youth at some point in their 20s, typically in the early to mid-20s. It can be triggered by having children at a young age or other factors, including growing maturity and experience.

Honestly, as long as idealism is balanced with realism, it can be productive. Hope can be generated by idealistic thought, and IMO having hope is critical, but we all know about Hope and Change. The left uses it against a voter demographic who are susceptible to manipulation. #sub80.

Nobody gets a pass on security clearances EXCEPT the president of the united states because he is the ultimate classifier and declassifier, and everyone under him must gain clearances to handle classified info.
