That’s kinda racist, actually.
The fatigue is real though.
I can't determine if
1. you are noting that it is "kinda racist" of me to note it seems some of the cantankerous white men who post on this board are easily triggered by "black names."
Or ...
2. you are noting it is "kinda racist" for some of the cantankerous white men who post on this board to be easily triggered by "black names."

I shall provide a definition by giving an example of what is not a "black name":
Bill Fankboner
(And, yes, if that were my given name, I would make every effort to parlay the awkwardness many ladies would feel upon my introducing myself ... into "nights of naughtiness" with said lovelies.)

That's not as white as Snavely Fjordnorst III who was in my Freshman English class at college and insisted upon being called Bubba for some reason. His quip to the instructor who questioned why he would want to be called Bubba, was this, "Can you believe two other men suffered that damned name before me and still gave it to me. That's just sick!"

The same asshat came up with the names in my Son's math book. I told him to change any name he couldn't pronounce to Dick and Jane.

Reading this name made me fight back tears of joy. Simply beautiful.

The storm originated over Mexico, crossed the water into the US without permission. Took everyone's jobs in the area while it was here. Left the neighborhoods it was in looking like a third world country. And then it got booted out of the country to everyone's relief.
And some people here think a Spanish name isn't appropriate?

All hurricanes begin in foreign regions. Doesn’t mean every name has to be tied to the region it emanates from.
It’s just woke bs.

Again, when we worry about woke related to hurricane names ...

Nobody is “worried” about it. I just find it humorous that wokeness rears its insanity everywhere.

That's a bad take. All in the Family equally attacked Archie Bunker and Meathead. One represented ingrained bigotry and the other the idiocy of the liberal. So what was the show really about? Remember even George Jefferson was lampooned and there's your hint. Archie Bunker was about how the women in the background were superior to the men they loved. It was a Feminist sitcom that got blacks, whites, liberals and conservatives, to tune in each thinking their side was getting in some hits at the opposition, all the while being lampooned while the women demonstrated the reason and balance.
So Bill you missed the whole point of All in the Family if you thought it was just about Archie in his armchair. The show was about Edith, Gloria, and Louise and how they kept sanity in their homes.

I agree that wokeness often rears its head in odd places. And there is often some absurdity to that. Fair point, 450.
But as long as the woke situation is not damaging to our society in the overall sense (and hurricane naming is not), I'm not going to allow my blood pressure to be elevated by that bit of wokeness (assuming the weather people were trying too hard to be inclusive with the name; maybe they were not).

IMO, if anything, people not being able to pronounce the name of this particular storm hopefully brought more attention to the storm and those in harms way took precautions.

An interesting take, VA. I like it.

Why not name them after the month it became a hurricane and the date? Like if it started in August 13 call it that and add the year. For instance, A1326. No one will get their panties in a bunch over a stupid name...and you'll remember the date that your house blew over by its name. Very seldom do we get hurricanes in June or July but if we did we could name it after the J and the third letter with the date...like JL1426 for July 14 2026. See how simple that is.

See, here we go. None of us can broach any subject, even when we're all just joking around, without you immediately jumping in to defend wokeness. This entire thread is a joke bill. Sorry if that offends you.

I like this idea. I would add another set of numbers in parenthesis after what you suggest, longitude and latitude for people who plot their own trajectories and of course that means older people because the young ones can't read a map and likely have no clue as to longitude or latitude unless they navigate an aircraft or ship. In that set of numbers you would be able to identify the storm and its current location. I think that's pretty solid.

I'm not "defending wokeness," BTF. I scoff at "harmful wokeness" as much as anybody on this board. (And, yes, I do feel there is "positive wokeness")
I'm criticizing what I feel is an over-the-top need to find wokeness everywhere. I sometimes wonder if some of the crusty old white men on this board would get angry if I noted my sister (hypothetically and for example) gave her daughter a "black name" to honor the black hospital official who oversaw the saving of the life (at birth) of the baby.
There is a "snowflake-ess" element seen with some of the bitching and complaining from these boy on the board.
As to my being offended, there is very little that offends me — notwithstanding when I disrobe to shower and look at myself in the mirror.
