Donald Trump's unique personality is both his superpower and his own kryptonite.
His command of a huge percentage of the American electorate makes him untouchable from the right. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of right-leaning politicians who would do a far better job than Donald Trump of running the government. Yet any one of them who steps up to challenge him will be given the Ted Cruz/Ron DeSantis treatment.
This is unique to Donald Trump. For a very bad reason: he simply does care about what is best for our nation to the extent that it interferes with what is best for him. And, if pushed, is willing to subordinate the interests of our country in order to ensure that he remains in charge. I will always dislike him intensely for this character flaw.
It also is why Republicans are sputtering during these midterms, despite the undeniable successes of the Trump II administration. Interesting read from a Trump doubter in this morning's New York Post:
Quote:Let’s admit it: Donald Trump’s second term so far has been a wild success.
I’m surprised to find myself standing up as a Trump defender — and more surprised still that so few others seem motivated to do it.
After all, I still don’t own a MAGA hat, and my vote for him in 2024 was my first.
I spent years as a Trump skeptic, voting third party in 2016 and not casting a presidential ballot at all in 2020.
Yes, I’m embarrassed to admit I was one of those “what’s the difference, man” dummies.
Then I saw what happened through four damaging years of President Joe Biden’s misbegotten administration.

THIS should be the front and center focus of these midterms. There is literally NOTHING policy-wise that the left can tout that doesn't get blown away factually by the tangible improvements delivered by this administration.
So instead it is Trump, Trump, Trump. That ought to be laughable. But it is not. It in fact is very effective. Why? Because Donald Trump makes it so.
--> Renaming bodies of water.
--> Getting into unnecessary personal squabbles with important allies (P.M.of Italy, for one example).
--> Constantly blaming others for his own mistakes.
--> Not letting the MUCH smarter people in his administration (Vance, Rubio, Bessent, Rollins, Etc.) take the lead on important initiatives.
The result is that these midterms are not about how much better off we are over the past two years. They instead are, yet again, a referendum on a very flawed individual.
