GOP candidates bailing on Donald Trump - Gitanole - 10-10-2026 01:25 AM This story is a sad one. It has become abundantly clear that Republicans in tough races aren’t especially eager to campaign with President Donald Trump (80) ahead of the midterm election. Few of them showed up to Trump’s midterm convention last month. His travel schedule since then has rather curiously featured lower-tier states like Alabama, Oklahoma, and New York, and only a handful of real battleground races. And even in Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott is skipping Trump’s upcoming rally (citing scheduling conflicts, of course). Trump increasingly appears rather sensitive about this dynamic—which makes sense, given he’s latched onto the theory that he alone can push his party to victory in less than four weeks, despite his low approval numbers. .... “By the way, I’m going around doing rallies. The Republican Party is starting to go right through the roof,” he said at a non-campaign event in Baltimore. .... (There is no evidence Trump’s rallies are actually helping, which we’ll get to.) He posted on social media that his “Rally crowds and enthusiasm are unbelievable!” He added: “We are flipping races all over the place. … It’s all happening!” In a separate post, he said simply: “MY RALLIES ARE SAVING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, AGAIN!!!” In gaggles with reporters, he returned to the topic even when he wasn’t asked about it, claiming at one point that “the rallies have changed things around.” When asked about leaked audio of Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton saying DC was controlling his campaign, Trump responded that Paxton was “doing much better” since Trump started doing rallies a few days ago. And when a reporter asked Monday about campaigning in Michigan, Trump said he would. When asked about campaigning in Maine, he suggested he would go there, too. .... But GOP Sen. Susan Collins has said repeatedly—including at a debate Tuesday night—that she didn’t expect Trump to come to Maine. “That’s just not going to happen,” Collins said in June. This is also an uneasy question in Iowa, where three House Republicans recently broke from Trump somewhat on the Iran war. And Senate candidate Rep. Ashley Hinson seems to want some distance from Trump. .... And back in early September, when it became clear many Republicans in marquee races were skipping the president’s Trump-centric midterm convention, the president claimed it was for reasons beside his historically low poll numbers. “Everybody wants to come,” Trump maintained, adding: “The reason that some people are not coming is because we don’t have room for 500 politicians.” He also said back then that he would be all over the country, campaigning for every Republican in the most competitive races. “I’m going to go to every one of those 35 places, and we’re going to see if we can get everyone elected,” he said September 2. He repeated the same claim at the convention a week later: “I’m gonna go to every one of them, about 35. In a couple of cases, I’ll go twice.” That doesn’t appear to be happening anymore—at least not yet. With less than four weeks to go, Trump has been to only a handful of true battleground areas. ![]() And despite Trump’s claim that he’s such an asset, it appears that his “Trump-a-palooza” midterm convention backfired on Republicans. Polls show the generic ballot, a key measure of the midterm, took a turn in Democrats’ favor at almost that precise moment. Of course, Trump simply can’t allow for this perception that Republicans don’t want to campaign with him and that he’s an electoral burden. .... In the four-week span left before the election, it could become abundantly clear just how many Republicans think Trump is an albatross and a lame duck. .... https://edition.cnn.com/2026/10/07/politics/trump-republicans-distancing-midterms RE: GOP candidates bailing on The Nodfather - Gitanole - 10-10-2026 01:30 AM If you were a GOP candidate, who would you want campaigning for you? I've only done it because I lived the life of an alley cat between marriages and never thought anything of it, I couldn't and wouldn't want to do it again though. RE: GOP candidates bailing on The Nodfather - Gitanole - 10-10-2026 09:02 PM President Donald Trump (80) spoke to large sections of empty seats at a Saturday rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, according to video and photos from the event. The rally, held weeks before the midterms, was disrupted by a heckler. Trump complained about press coverage of his crowd sizes, while reports note his recent events draw smaller audiences than in 2015, with one analysis citing crowds up to 75% smaller. Trump has disputed reports of thin attendance, claiming arenas were full. The New York Times previously reported empty seats at his Mobile, Alabama rally, where he drew 8,000 to a 10,000-seat venue, compared to 30,000 in 2015. https://www.newsminimalist.com/articles/trump-speaks-to-empty-seats-at-tennessee-rally-243858a0 RE: GOP candidates bailing on The Nodfather - GeminiCoog - 10-10-2026 09:37 PM The dude who runs News Minimalist is from Canada. RE: GOP candidates bailing on The Nodfather - Gitanole - 10-12-2026 05:25 AM With less than a month until the November 3 midterm elections, President Donald Trump (80) is confronting a political reality that continues to worsen: His approval rating is underwater in most of the country and hovering near record lows nationally. A new state-by-state tracker from Civiqs shows Trump with positive net approval ratings in just 11 states... The findings add to a growing body of surveys showing Trump’s support slipping as voters prepare to decide which party controls Congress. According to the tracker, the 11 states that still back the president are Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming. .... https://usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2026/10/06/trump-approval-rating-underwater-most-states-poll/92123205007/ Historically, when the president is unpopular, his party loses seats in the midterms.... Trump’s approval rating has reached record low points in several recent polls, creating a headache for Republicans in the final stretch of the midterms. His approval has fallen amid voters’ ongoing frustration with the economy, the cost of living, and high gas prices soaring amid the unpopular war in Iran. .... Trump’s net approval rating stood at –14 points in the latest Morning Consult poll.... ![]() On August 30, the president hit back at polls in a post on Truth Social: “THE FAKE POLLS USED BY OUR CROOKED MEDIA ARE OUT OF CONTROL, AND SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT IT. FCC TO THE RESCUE! President DJT,” he wrote. .... The president’s party suffers losses in the midterms even if (the president is) relatively popular, but Trump is setting “that dial to 11,” Michael Bailey, a professor of government at Georgetown University, told Newsweek. “He is super unpopular, more than usual, so he’s going to have even more of a weight on Republicans,” he said. “And as we all know, he is not sitting quietly in the White House trying to let voters forget about how unpopular he is. He is doing very high-profile things that reinforce the reasons people are upset with him.” Trump’s approval is low enough that more conservative states are “on the board,” but that does not necessarily mean Republicans in those states will lose, Bailey said... “Both Democrats and Republicans should be prepared to see some things that would have been very surprising to see a year ago.” https://www.newsweek.com/map-trump-approval-rating-in-each-senate-swing-state-4-weeks-before-midterm-12530774 RE: GOP candidates bailing on The Nodfather - GeminiCoog - 10-12-2026 05:31 AM lol Newsweek.
