Not one to value a loss but as of now New Mexico has the best loss.
Texas is the best team of the bunch but UTSA couldnt get any offense going. While New Mexico held Oklahoma total yards to within yards of UGA.
On paper, I agree.
I will likely have Boise No. 1 and New Mexico No. 2 in my next G6 rankings

Which conference would Montana St be 7-1? Montana St hasnt looked near as strong this year as last and would have more than one loss in any G6 conference.
Tarleton St does have a FBS win but over a two win Bowling Green. Again there isnt a FBS conference Tarleton St is undefeated.

This is a thread to discuss the G6 playoff contenders. I have no idea why he would bring up FCS teams.

UTSA has now surpassed Boise as the team to beat. The Roadrunners next play 3 of the top 5 other American teams, all with winning records. They are not locks (only 94% playoff likelihood if they go 12-1), but Boise may need them to lose if the Broncos are to grab that 12-seed.

RE: G6 Race Shaping UpSo Far
Sagarin's updated for week of 10/25.
#39 6-1 Boise St. (#57 Oregon State)
#54 6-1 New Mexico (#86 UNLV)
#57 5-2 Oregon State (@ #39 Boise St)
#61 7-1 *James Madison (@ #90 Connecticut)
#65 7-1 UTSA (#70 North Texas)
#68 6-1 *Liberty (#121 Western Kentucky)
-Every G6 conference has a 1 loss team this week with the exception of the MAC.
-New Mexico now past NDSU is starting to roll with its chances at a CFP spot.
-James Madison while having only one loss does not control its destiny in the SBC East at the moment with a divisional loss to App St.
-I haven't looked much at UTSA's chances but they could rise relative to some of the other 1 loss teams as they have a better remaining opponent than UNM, JMU and Liberty.

That doesn’t matter. They have the 2nd lowest odds of winning out if we include the American CCG. They will have two games where they will be slight favorites. Basically 50/50 games.
James Madison, Boise and New Mexico have much higher odds of winning the rest of their games. JMU has UConn and maybe the Sun Belt CCG left. Boise has to beat Oregon St twice, that will be tough. New Mexico has to win vs UNLV, Air Force and the MW CCG.
Oregon St has the lowest odds of winning out, only cause they would have to beat Boise twice. I think they could split those and that would let JMU back into the race.

Three points.
1) Strength of Record is the best computer proxy for “deservedness.” Deviations from SOR usually reflect humans looking at the brand value of the team (advantage Boise). Both ESPN and I have the Roadrunners and Broncos at #22 and #23 respectively in SOR Rankings.
2) This is looking at 13-game records. While Boise may have the upper hand in October, given the SOS to close the season, 12-1 will be more impressive for UTSA.
3) I’ve got Boise locked into Utah State to end the season. If the Pac-12 exercises its flex option that could enhance the Broncos’ resume.

All these top G6 teams are 1 loss from not being so solidly top anymore. Right now I see Boise at the top and UTSA as 2nd. Primarily because they’re sos is stronger than the others mentioned.
UNT and LaTech not top, but are waiting for some losses for the tops.
And of course Liberty, New Mexico, Memphis Oregon state and others mentioned frequently are still in it.

Ok, now give us the odds of UTSA actually finishing 11-1 and winning the American conference. How does it compare to the odds of Boise St winning out?

UTSA is not the team to beat at this point in time. It is Boise State with New Mexico in second. For example, the AP Poll is going to be closer to what the Playoff Committee decides and right now, Boise State is ranked 20th. Under the others receiving votes, New Mexico has 41 votes at No. 27, Oregon State has 10 votes at No. 29, and UTSA is No. 33 with 1 vote.
UTSA has three last-minute come from behind wins over Navy, USF, and Texas State plus a two-point win over Rice. They need to convince voters that they are for real.
And Boise's Oregon loss is not looking as impressive as it was. UTSA's lone loss is to Texas.

The Roadrunners next play 3 of the top 5 other American teams, all with winning records. They are not locks (only 94% playoff likelihood if they go 12-1), but Boise may need them to lose if the Broncos are to grab that 12-seed.

You said that UTSA is the team to beat at this time. That is just not true. The team to beat today is Boise State. Strength of Schedule is one metric, but as we can all see, Boise State is the only G6 ranked team today and if they finish 12-1, they are the playoff team. They would have to beat Oregon State twice. They would have to lose to finish behind another team for the playoff spot. UTSA got one single AP vote. That was it. It is setup for Boise State to be the playoff team if they finish 12-1.

Yes,but Boise State beat Memphis, then Tulane put a smack down on Memphis and UTSA put asmack down on Tulane. I put UTSA as number 1, New Mexico 2, JMU 3 dropping out of number 1, Liberty 4 and Boise State 5. PAC 12 is the weakest conference.

IMO Boise is clearly in the driver's seat. UTSA is having a fine season but they have won a lot of close games. Boise has looked better IMO.
I think Oregon State is the biggest threat to Boise. They may be the best G6 team.

What happens if Oregon State beats Boise State twice? Would they move ahead of every one loss G6 team?

I think they probably will. Oregon State's only two losses are the top 20 Big 12 teams that nobody expects any G6 to be able to beat, and they played close respectable games against both of them.
It would be deliciously ironic if somehow Oregon State won the G6 slot to the playoffs and and none of the Pac-12 teams that abandoned them 3 years ago make the playoffs.

New Mexico seems to be the better team as they lost to Oklahoma by 8 who beat the number 1 team Texas.

That would be delicious and, as a CFB fan, I’ll root for it.
What if OSU goes 11-2… right now I don’t think there is enough to distinguish them from an 11-2 American champ or 12-1 New Mexico. But there are still more weeks for that to develop.

12-1 New Mexico gets the bid before a 11-2 Oregon St.
Nothing on the resume to warrant a pass over of New Mexico
