I'll read through the thread in a few. Just wanted to say I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, sir. I'm glad you're looking on the bright side of life.

Thanks, brother. Not really having fun yet. Still stuck in the house, but closing is Aug 14, and shortly after that, I will be on my way.

Meanwhile, I'm glad you are doing so much better. Good on you, man.

Thanks, Andy. I'm not completely out of the woods yet, but I'm definitely on my way. In fact, yesterday was the first day I didn't use the walker at all. (I took it with me to dialysis just in case I needed it.) I still feel some numbness in the last two fingers of my left hand as well as the last two or three fingers of my left foot, but I'm getting stronger.

It's a slow process. I went through something slightly similar when I had congestive heart failure (caught from a virus at a football game, of all things) in 2017. It took several years and several surgeries to recover, but...I recovered!

As proven by what I am about to do, lol!

Passed my final hurdles this week. Had my final house inspection. Got slapped around a bit, but nothing major. Two potential serious problems noted, both turned out to be okay after further investigation. Good to go now.

Closing still on schedule. 24 days to go.

RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log
Getting closer. Only thing left for me is a termite inspection and a septic inspection, then I'm good to go. Don't anticipate any issues.

Meanwhile I changed the RV I plan to buy. Whatever RV I get, I decided to replace the dinette with 2 recliners and a table. That huge dinette at the rear of my first choice was actually built into the rear structure of the RV and could not be removed, and I couldn't see spending the rest of my traveling life with uncomfortable seating every day.

So now here's my new ride. It's made by the same company as the Odyssey, it's just called Redhawk instead. Same floor plans and everything else, except the interior decor finishes and the nameplate. This floor plan is a lot more conventional than my first one, but it gets me my 2 recliners where the dinette currently sits.

Last sentence in my first paragraph above turned out to be a big miss. I had a breaker out that needed to be replaced. Turns out, the whole board had to be replaced. A cool $4K plus. Ouch. Always something.

Meanwhile, I'm driving to my sister's place on Monday, and we're headed up toward St Louis Tuesday to check out the new RV I'm interested in. Hopefully, it's still available. Been sitting there 120 days already.

$4K to replace the main bus bar ... YIKES!!! .... I hope you called for other quotes after posting this ... that's off-the-chain too high unless there's more to that story...

I'm with you on the recliners and table vs. that standard dinette setup ... comfort first, I say ... 04-cheers

two other things you haven't covered that I'm curious about ... cleaning and laundry ... due to tight quarters and age, I'm wondering if you may not be able to handle the rigors of cleaning the bath, toilet, nooks and crannies (even nuts has someone come in monthly just for bathrooms and floors) ... I also don't have a clue how the laundry scene works (especially due to living life with the minimum in the closet) ... I don't see many RVs at the laundromat...

just curious, Trips ... nice to see you making progress to engaging this final chapter!!!

Yes, got a second quote. It was worse. Most of the expense is in the board, not the labor, although everything has to be rewired. That takes 3-4 hours.

I looked it up online to see why, and found that total cost can actually run as high as $10K. The problem is in the ridiculous amount of metals that go into the board these days to meet code. This house is 25 years old.

At this point, I'm not going to fight with peeps. I'm over it. I just want out. That should be my last big expense.

Cleaning. I'm a lot older than you are, and my wife was sick for many years. I have paid for house cleaning for as many years as I can recall. No reason to stop now. It will just be a little more difficult to coordinate time and location, but I'm not moving the RV fast at all. Probably staying in one spot a month or more at a time.

Laundry. Simple. I plan to boondock a lot, but will stay at a campground once a week to use their laundry, or stop in some town at a laundromat. I will only carry enough clothes for about 10 days, and I usually wear most things for 2 days, unless I get sweaty or dusty.

I plan for Saturday or Sunday to be my laundry day. Those are heavy duty days for tourists, so should be light at the laundromat, especially in places I'm going to visit.

My sister and I used to go out for 2 weeks at a time in her Class A, and then later in her Class B campervan, and we used the laundromat once a week.

Well this one looks pretty nice. 04-cheers I was thinking about the mattress on the bed. I was wondering if you might want to put one of those foam mattress toppers (3") on top to make it a little bit more comfortable.

I'm wondering why you would need a new panel for a house that is only 25 years old. 01-wingedeagle

Well at least you didn't have a Federal Pacific board. I had one of those. I didn't have to replace the board, but the replacement breakers were really expensive and you could only get them one place in Houston.

So are you going to have a storage facility in South Dakota?

I have an 8 inch foam mattress that I sleep on every night. I might try that one first. RV mattresses universally suck.

Replacing the electric panel was a total surprise to me. Never heard of that before, and I personally built custom homes from $500K to $1.2M 20-25 years ago.

But OTOH, that panel is shot. Two breakers were actually burned out, not next to each other, and several wires were singed. You can't see it until you pull them out. It's a wonder the damn thing didn't start a fire.

And I've checked that box a number of times, b/c in the last few months, it has tripped breakers quite a bit. Never did that before this year.

My guess is, we have a transformer on the property line right beside our driveway, and a violent storm a few days ago caused it to pop like crazy, and maybe that sent a surge in, plus, that box has been getting overloaded a good bit, apparently.

So, total rewire it is. I can't chance it for the next guy.

Okay, back to fun stuff, lol.

I had a friend design a logo decal for the back of my new RV. Every RV needs a name. My RV will be "Pokey."
