OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - TripleA - 07-01-2026 07:51 AM Hey guys, I'm getting a lot of questions about my upcoming lifestyle change, and I feel like we are hijacking a few threads, so the mods have been kind enough to allow me to post a separate thread. I realize this has nothing to do with politics, and not all of you are interested, so this will make it easier to just skip over the one thread, if you choose. For the rest of you goobers who are interested, fire away! ![]() To kick this off, I'll repeat below the last post from another thread, which answers a lot of beginning questions. RE: My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - BartlettTigerFan - 07-01-2026 07:53 AM Everything is politics to the people here! RE: My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - mlb - 07-01-2026 07:53 AM Pinning this. Look forward to following along. RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - olliebaba - 07-01-2026 09:12 AM Don't forget to go to Pikes Peak and take the tram up to the summit. It's a sight to behold. My BIL drove it to the top, I don't have the guts to do that, I worry that my brakes will give out coming down. It's more leisurely taking the tram and you'll be sightseeing instead of worry about dropping off the road. RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - olliebaba - 07-01-2026 09:26 AM Hey Triple, instead of an ebike why not get a motorscooter. Most of them have a spot for a passenger too, just in case. They're a lot of fun but the slower ones aren't made for freeway driving. I tell my kids that I want one that goes 150 mph and one told me, "you'll kill yourself, dad". LOL The last time I drove a bike was when I was 14, but I haven't ever gotten one for me. For some reason I love motorscooters more than motorcycles and boy do they have a lot of options. I hope I can do that before I keel over. RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - Tiger1983 - 07-01-2026 09:30 AM From Triple A's post in the other thread..... I have already decided the model, just waiting to buy it after my house closing. 2026 or 2027 Entegra Odyssey SE 20LF ![]() ![]() Virtual Tour and Specs: https://www.bluecompassrv.com/product-entegra-coach/odyssey-se-motor-home-class-c/20lf Features I wanted: * Price capped at $80K * As roomy as possible for that price. This is where I eliminated Class B campervans, which are regular city vans converted. They are really small, and usually cost more due to the labor involved. Class Cs take a much larger chassis, lop off everything behind the cab and install a much larger factory built box. My model has a huge dinette in the back where I can spread out. Feels way roomier than all Class Cs of this length, and blows anyway any Class B. * A full dry bath (separate shower, toilet and sink, as opposed to a wet bath, where all 3 are enclosed in the shower and everything gets wet when you shower) * Off-grid capable (I plan to boondock as much as possible). Mine has a 4000W generator and 400W of backup rooftop solar panels. * A strong engine (Ford E-350 7.3L V-8 with 325 hp) * Easy to drive and park. Mine is 21'11" long and 8'4" wide. A regular Ford E-350 is approximately the same size. Normal parking space is approx. 20' x 9'. The 350 has been rated the most drivable engine on the market. * Two separate sleeping areas, in case any buddies want to spend a night or two (I get the dinette, visitors get the over-cab bunk, although it is plenty roomy)[/quote] * An outdoor power awning (mine is a 13-foot power patio awning with LED lighting) * High ceiling (mine is 7') RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - CardinalJim - 07-01-2026 09:32 AM Travel safe Andy RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - Tiger1983 - 07-01-2026 09:33 AM How will you handle medical care? How will you access internet? How is AC powered and how long will it operate? My wife and I plan a Globus tour of the West in late August. I will keep an eye out for you.
RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - UCGrad1992 - 07-01-2026 09:34 AM I would recommend traveling on parts of the Blue Ridge Parkway that may be at or near some of your destination points. I've thoroughly enjoyed the parkway over the 22+years I've lived in North Carolina. I've been on it from parts of the Smoky Mountains/Asheville, NC area to Boone, NC to southern Virginia. The Fall season is absolutely wonderful. On my bucket list is traversing the extreme northern section named Skyline Drive that runs through Shenandoah National Park. Always check the NP Service/Blue Ridge Parkway web pages for road closure/openings and wonderful outdoor events/places to visit along the route. It's not a NP, but Mount Mitchell State Park in NC features the highest peak (6,700 ft.) east of the Mississippi River. It has a great lodge and museum on the mountain RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - TripleA - 07-01-2026 09:38 AM (07-01-2026 09:12 AM)olliebaba Wrote: Don't forget to go to Pikes Peak and take the tram up to the summit. When I was 15, my parents and sister and I went there. We were in a brand new 1962 Chevy II, but it was a tiny thing, especially for 4 people on a road trip from Memphis to Seattle. Anyway, my dad decided he was driving to the top. Well, my mom, and to a lesser extent, my sister, were big chickens, so sure enough, about halfway up, my mom started freaking out and convinced my dad to turn around. I was disappointed, especially that my dad never got a chance again. I'm going to make up for that soon. I'm not about to drive my RV up there, but I def intend to take the tram. RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - b2b - 07-01-2026 09:43 AM When does it start? I looked at motor scooters, too. I like those better, and I found one that will do 95. But for now, I'm going to go out at first without anything extra, and see how I do. The RV is really not big (as I said before, the same exact size (length and width) as a Ford 350 pickup. Only the box is much higher. I will try that at first and see if I actually need anything else. What works for me won't fit on a platform on the back of the RV, so I would have to tow something. Not my first choice. I'll let you know how it goes once I get on the road. RE: OT - My upcoming RV Adventures Travel Log - TripleA - 07-01-2026 09:45 AM Thanks for copying that post, '83.
