The media and politicians lie. Bidness likes to make as much money as possible

Its so cute watching some people grow up

None of this is new

With the advent of AI, artificial ignorance, people wont even have to read or think

Brave new world

As if smartphones haven't already made many of us stupid as hell. I used to remember phone numbers; I had a gift for it, seriously. I never forgot a phone number. I can barely remember my wife's cell number now. I can still remember my parents' and grandparents', uncles' and cousins' landline numbers, and old friends' numbers from 60 years ago, though.

bruv, nuts still remembers that thread ... and Ja!, I'm still in agreement with the overall premise and how it will negatively impact the masses moving forward...

this is simply another cog to help fulfill that requirement...

What was the timeline on that again?

You were perfectly fine with Twitter, CNN, or any of the plethora of left-biased outlets when they were spouting your propaganda. Then you scream "death of journalism" when something like this happens. Spare us the faux indignation.

This, so much this ^

That's the ONLY reason the loons here are crying. The left just lost one of its primary propaganda devices, and that spells trouble for them. That's why they are crying.

The sad thing about CNN is it wasn't always a leftist news organization. (Or it at least wasn't always presented that way.) Back when I was in high school and in college the first time, it news reporting seemed more down the middle. (Remember, Headline News even had Glenn Beck on every weeknight for a couple years.) I think the big switch happened around '07-'08, when Obama first ran for President and they really doubled down on their leftist slant when Trump came down that gold escalator.

CNN has always been left. It was Ted Turner and Jane Fonda's baby. But they were non-partisan and factual. Facts and non-partisanship are what they have abandoned.

Not Jane's. Ted started CNN in 1980. Jane was 11 years or so later, and left after 9 years.

True, but I'm sure she helped him influence the slant (if not the coverage) while they were together.

I lived in Atlanta for 33 years, and I was there from 1980 to well after Jane left. IMO, she had zero influence on CNN, b/c CNN's slant never changed from the beginning to the end of my time there.

I think the real lefty bias came later.

Yeah, you’re right about that, after further reflection, which is why I say it really became prevalent when Obama started running.

RE: End of CNN as We Know It
Quote:Rick Kaplan was a producer for Walter Cronkite‘s CBS newscasts in 1977 when he met the obscure Attorney General of Arkansas named Bill Clinton. “Both gregarious, both personable, both deeply interested in politics, both news junkies, both charmers, both voracious eaters (their first encounter, appropriately enough, was in a restaurant), they hit it off instantly,” wrote David Margolick in a January 1998 Vanity Fair profile. “‘I just remember he was a terrific guy,’ Kaplan said. ‘Fun.’ ...

By 1997, after Kaplan moved to Cable News Network (CNN) as one of its chieftains, with evidence of campaign fundraising improprieties threatening to submerge Bill Clinton, CNN unleashed a Kaplan-produced special. U.S. News & World Report found that Kaplan had ordered CNN reporters to “limit the use of the word ‘scandal’ in reporting on Clinton’s campaign fundraising.” The message to CNN reporters was clear: go easy on the boss’s friends in the White House.

You aren't from the right. I ALWAYS saw it. But like I said, it was a BBC type of bias. Factual and non-partisan, but they did things like posting Iraqi casualties on the screen and they did it with their choices of what to cover extensively. However, they would criticize both parties.

RE: End of CNN as We Know It
Maybe I'm not being clear. I lived in Atlanta from 1981 until 2014. Watched CNN a lot. Still do.

For years, CNN was basically neutral. Started in 1980. Maybe some of you aren't old enough to have watched and remembered the details in the beginning.

It was obvious Turner was a serious lefty, but I don't recall it being that obvious on air. I recall plenty of panels that had legit voices from both sides.

Seems to me, it was a gradual shift to the left over years, not a sharp jump.

Just for fun, I did a query and got the following. This aligns with my personal memory and POV, especially the part that CNN was neutral until early into the 2000s.

Quote:AI Overview

Initial Perception: Before the 2000s, CNN was generally viewed as a straightforward "just the news" channel, which changed after the rise of competitors like Fox News and MSNBC.

The 2007-2008 Shift: A Harvard Shorenstein Center study found that during the 2007 primaries, CNN’s programming was disproportionately critical of Republican candidates.

Post-2016 Polarization: The network's coverage, particularly during the 2016 election and the subsequent four years, led to it being broadly perceived as having a strong liberal slant.

Leadership Changes: Under Jeffrey Zucker (2013-2022), the network intensified its focus on commentary and personality-driven news.

Subsequent Re-centering Efforts: Following criticism, new leadership under Chris Licht in 2022 attempted to pull the network back toward the political center, though it was a challenging transition.

Okay, I finally figured out why you guys are busting my chops. I mistyped ONE WORD, lol.

I intended to say I didn't see significant change from the beginning to the end of HER (Fonda's) time in Atlanta (1990-2000 or so), not beginning to the end of MY time there (1980-2014).

In the '80s and '90s, I remember tons of panels adequately represented on both sides of the aisle. I think the eventual slide away from that was gradual, and began to accelerate in the early '00s, but hey, maybe I'm off a few years.

Meanwhile, Bullet, people who are independent have just as much ability to discern shifts in policy from media outlets as anybody else. It's not like it's a God-given right only to conservatives, lol.

Plus, people change their political center over the years. I started out as a lefty (born into a hard Dem family in the 1940s, and helping my dad with political campaigns at age 5), evolved into the cliche social lefty and fiscally conservative righty (in my 30s), and gradually transformed into the hard right conservative I seem to be now (almost age 80), pushed mainly by the BS that Obama and Killary pulled in 2016.

Yes left, no not like now. They stuck to the facts and didn't carry the Democratic party's water, unlike now. But they presented the facts in a leftist way. As I pointed out, they showed their opposition to the Gulf War by showing Iraqi casualties regularly on the screen. Nobody else was doing anything like that.

CNN as it is now is a great platform to learn about the left's talking point and strategies without the obnoxiousness of the Rachel Madow like MSNBC presentation

Having watched CNN this weekend the lefts talking point on this Iranian situation is illegal war. Trump lied and is a war mongerer

Agree. I watch CNN along with Fox. CNN is def left, but slightly tolerable. MSNOW is unwatchable. Newsmax just has boring anchors, and is right of Fox.

If you watch CNN and can pick up on the subtle propaganda it's very informative to know how the other side is thinking and what they are trying to achieve
