No I mourn the fact that we continue to allow our news media be controlled by a few extremely large corporations whom don't have the best interests for average Americans at heart. This just makes 1 fewer huge corporation that has control of the message.

This. Sorry, y'all, but mlb's right. Too much conglomeration going on, and it's been happening for decades.

Yep, the broadcast world changed when Turner was taken over by Time Warner.

RE: End of CNN as We Know It
It's amusing to see the Dems bemoan the death of journalism, like it hasn't been dying for the past 30 years, thanks in large part to CNN. Oh no...the fake news, constantly lying CNN is going away. Where are we now to go to get reliable news?!? 03-lmfao

You were perfectly fine with Twitter, CNN, or any of the plethora of left-biased outlets when they were spouting your propaganda. Then you scream "death of journalism" when something like this happens. Spare us the faux indignation.

That is the information infrastructure of the country changing hands in real time. X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, CBS. And now they are circling CNN.

A) X has always been a political instrument. It was turned into a "freer" (not perfectly free) speech zone when Musk took over.
B) Zuckerberg killed fact-finding cause the Biden administration quit PAYING him to "Fact Check"
C) Tik-tok is still a waste of time

As for CNN... Never been the same since the end of Crossfire (and maybe Wolf Blitzer, who even though you knew he was left-leaning, wasn't afraid to ask Dems tough questions).

The sad thing about CNN is it wasn't always a leftist news organization. (Or it at least wasn't always presented that way.) Back when I was in high school and in college the first time, it news reporting seemed more down the middle. (Remember, Headline News even had Glenn Beck on every weeknight for a couple years.) I think the big switch happened around '07-'08, when Obama first ran for President and they really doubled down on their leftist slant when Trump came down that gold escalator.

I remember those days, too. That's when I'd watch both CNN and Fox News. Heck, Greta Van Susteren hadn't even moved to Fox yet. (I think she moved in '01 or '02.)

RE: End of CNN as We Know It
I love the smell of panic in the morning.

CNN staffers crash out after Paramount wins bid to takeover parent co Warner Bros

Quote:In the wake of Warner Bros Discovery saying that Paramount’s counteroffer to Netflix’s takeover bid was the "superior" offer, CNN employees have expressed concerns that layoffs are coming. CNN is a division of Warner Bros Discovery, meaning Paramount and its head, David Ellison, will soon be overseeing the left-wing news outlet.

One CNN staffer told Status, "We are doomed." Another said, "We are f*cked." Yet another staffer said, "Everybody is reeling about the obvious things." An insider told the outlet of the mood at the news outlet, "The panic at CNN right now is off the charts."

Netflix CEO Greg Peters said on Thursday that the company was no longer pursuing Warner Bros Discovery. "The transaction we negotiated would have created shareholder value with a clear path to regulatory approval. However, we've always been disciplined, and at the price required to match Paramount Skydance's latest offer, the deal is no longer financially attractive, so we are declining to match the Paramount Skydance bid." Under Netflix’s deal, the streaming giant was seeking only streaming, HBO, and their film studios. Paramount sought to acquire Warner Bros entire company.

Status said that CNN staffers are also panicking "over the suddenly very real prospect that they could be working for Bari Weiss before the end of the year." In October, Paramount bought Weiss’ outlet The Free Press for $150 million, and Weiss was made editor-in-chief of Paramount-owned CBS News.

Brian Stelter wrote for CNN, "Any steps to merge CNN and CBS News — a long-discussed possibility — may be impeded by the fact that the CBS News workforce is heavily unionized while CNN’s is not. The combination of the two storied news brands is both eminently logical – but potentially really hard to accomplish."

One CNN producer told the Guardian about a potential merger of the news outlets, "A Paramount-WBD merger is a disaster for the people who work at both companies, and if Bari Weiss takes control of CNN, it will be the end of the global network Ted Turner founded. I don’t think that’s hyperbolic."

CBS News staffers responded similarly to those at CNN, with one saying, "f*ck, f*ck, f*ck," while another said, "well, f*ck." A third CBS staffer said they expected their entire department to be slashed if merged with CNN and duplicate services are cut.

Netflix is up almost $11 today (almost 13% in one day). It's early yet, but they're being rewarded for walking away from Warner Brothers.

CNN has always been left. It was Ted Turner and Jane Fonda's baby. But they were non-partisan and factual. Facts and non-partisanship are what they have abandoned.

RE: End of CNN as We Know It
Brian Stelter Offers Laughable Defense of CNN as Leftists at Network Panic Over New Ownership (VIDEO)

Quote:People at CNN are in a panic as Paramount is set to become the new owner of the far left network. The owner of Paramount is known to lean a little more to the right, so some people at the network are worried that they won’t be allowed to continue spinning the news against Trump and Republicans every day.

Enter noted potato, Brian Stelter.

Stelter appeared on the air with Wolf Blitzer tonight and offered an absolutely laughable take on the network’s coverage of the news.

NewsBusters has details:

Paramount’s victory in the Warner Bros. Discovery merger battle is causing great unrest inside CNN. Fox News is finding anonymous CNN staffers freaking out at the news. On CNN’s The Situation Room, chief media analyst Brian Stelter inspired an unintentional laugh riot when he said Paramount’s goal of news that’s “balanced and fact-based….sure sounds a lot like CNN’s mission.”

He also tried to address the maintenance of liberal bias, which he described as “editorial independence” that defines CNN. This is a fraught term, considering CNN didn’t exactly show independence on stories like President Biden’s mental decline — although Jake Tapper caught up after the election.

STELTER: Now, more broadly, CNN employees and viewers have real concern about whether Paramount CEO David Ellison will uphold the editorial independence that CNN is known for. There has been severe political turbulence in recent months, and President Trump has long sought to weaken CNN. Last December, Trump said, quote, it’s imperative that CNN be sold, and now that is what’s happening.

But I can tell you, Ellison has talked in recent months about how he wants to sustain the news business in the United States. And he has talked about his belief that, quote, “the majority of the country longs for news that is balanced and is fact-based.” And, Wolf, that sure sounds a lot like CNN’s mission, a lot of similarities here.

See the video below:

Newsflash for Brian Stelter. CNN is not balance or fact-based. It’s a dumpster fire of left wing Trump hatred, and everyone knows it.

The best thing that could ever happen to CNN is for the new owner to absolutely clean house by firing a lot of people.
