Yep. Even here in rural IL, we have plenty of guys in the trades from all over Latin America.

I had some drywalling done last week on my house. Saturday at 8 am, I'm sitting in my kitchen eating breakfast with my little kids, and a guy walks in through my back door (without knocking) and yells out at the top of his lungs with a slight Mexican accent, "Mexican drywallers are here!"

I'm thinking about going that way for my next roof. I always have figured the warranty isn't worth crap though as it seems like those manufacturers always go out of business after 10 years to keep them from having to actually do the warranty work.

It's true though, I've met a lot of them looking for employment and when it's obvious that they don't know how to do a job they'll lie and tell you that they know how just to get hired. "El hambre es canijo"-hunger is a beech.

When I lived in California, I came to the conclusion that as a group, Mexican-Californians are more American than White-Californians. Regardless of when they or their ancestors arrived here.

I'm Catholic, so I grew up viewing Mexicans as just the latest group of newbies in the pews.

Today Mexicans aren't the newbies anymore; they're fully integrated and part of the establishment who welcomes in newer groups.

The newbies today aren't just Central Americans; half of US immigrants are Catholic: Filipinos, Vietnamese, Dominicans, Cubans, Haitians, Columbians, and Jamaicans are all top-12 sources of legal immigration in 2024, and Nigerians/Ghanians combined would be in that group too. The biggest group of foreign-born Catholics in my local area is actually from India (although only 2% of India is Christian, almost 20% of Indian immigrants in the USA are Christian).

All of which is not "writing out" replacing your roof... like you said.

It is a major change from what they covered 5 years ago.

If your roof can't last 10 years (assuming you don't have a tree fall on it) then you have a terrible installer. They didn't previously depreciate your roof over 10 years, but they are now, which makes your roof policy of little value.

But it's not "writing out" replacing your roof... like you said.

Semantics. The whole point of it is that they are selling you insurance on something that has almost zero chance of being used. They are doing everything they can to not have to pay for a roof replacement, even if you have a roof that is relatively new.

Well then maybe you shouldn't use words like "not replace your roof" if that's not really what you meant.

Yep, it’s hardly a “Mexican” issue. The Mexicans of today are like the Italians from a 100 years ago. It’s all the other immigrant groups you cited. Last year I was a local amusement park and the shift really slapped me in the face how much immigration leaped during the last administration. In prior years, I would see the usual mix of white, black, and a mix of people or Asian and Hispanic descent; last year the mix was considerably different and you could tell the non-native folks in the crowd were very new this country. I had never seen so many immigrants from all of the nations and continents in Southwest Ohio in all my life.

Yeeeaaahhh... exactly when did insurance companies WANT to pay to replace your roof??? 03-lmfao

There is a difference between not wanting to do it and outright writing it out of your agreement when it comes time to renew.

Thats not everywhere....

had my roof replaced in 2017, hail storm. Will have my roof replaced again this year, waiting till Oct, hail storm. My policy was just renewed and it still as replacement coverage.

BTW the first time the white guy driving the 100k truck and wearing the Rolex, showed up dropped off 3 Mexicans another Mexican showed up 30 minutes later with his beat up old truck and a trailer carrying the shingles....

Wasn't "cheaper" the Mexicans just allowed the white guy to afford a 100k truck and the Rolex. The next time I saw him, to pick up the check. I started having nail pops with in the 2nd summer

You dont have a clue on what you are talking about if you think Mexicans are keeping the price down....

its $475 a sq in my area and shingles are $120 of that. A crew of 4 can easily rip off and replace 30sq in a day. They have the air gun turned up so high its driving nails almost through the shingle.....

go on you tube and when you see a crew ripping up shingle by hand taking off a half sq at a time. It's because most of those nails are being driven most of the way through the shingle.

Its also why insurance claims are up, wind damage, from the lack of proper nailing

I dont believe you are understanding what you are reading......

deprecation doesnt mean you are not getting your roof replaced. Most policies have RCV and the deprecation is paid when the roof is replaced and you summit your bill.

They might pay 50%, if there's 50% deprecation but when you get that roof replaced if it cost you the 100%. You get another check for the deprecation cost

Straight from the rep's mouth...

Every year they take 10% off of what they'll cover if the roof needs replaced. So, after your deductible, they'll pay 90% year 1, 80% year 2, etc.. 0% after year 10. We shopped it through Nationwide, Allstate, Statefarm... they all had a graduation similar to that. They just started putting it in policies over the last 1-3 years, and they are doing it as they renew but not really pointing it out (so make sure you read your policy closely).

Maybe it is just the Ohio market?

Like I said not in my area and I would be contacting the insurance commissioner because a roof "ages out" around year 28. And that's the cheap shingles. So while they might like to say your roof has 100% deprecation after 10 years. The law most likely will say something else.

we been through 2 hail storms in 7 years and below is my insurance quote on the cost of materials for the roof....

7 year old and the desperation is the blue check and that is recoverable once I get it replaced

I don't know how much this is true but I saw in FB that Sheinbaum is angry because Mexico has become the new US. Illegals are flooding their borders and she even sent the National Guard to stop the tide. She doesn't like it that the shoe is on the other foot. That's why nations have borders and immigration laws to keep out those that want to come in unlawfully.
