Intimidation of the press, constantly attacking the press, limiting access of the press for asking questions you don’t like, etc are all tactics designed to control the press and limit free speech.

Do we truly have a free press if an editor has to go “we can’t run that story, or they will take away our access to the White House” or “we can’t ask that question, they will ban us from the pentagon press pool”.

Freedom of the press is a sign of a health democracy and our current administration seems to pride themselves on attacking and limiting press that they perceive as not “being on their side”. It is absolutely an attack on the first amendment, Trump banned the AP from the briefing room for not going along with his dumb “Gulf of America” stuff and a federal court had to restore their access on 1st amendment grounds.
