“we do not support Taiwan independence”
Quote:Beijing issued a strong rebuke of the Trump administration Monday after the US State Department removed the phrase, “we do not support Taiwan independence” — its longheld position on the island — from its website.

China accused Washington of “serious regression” on the issue, pressing the US to “immediately correct its mistakes” over the removal of the line, or risk “further serious damage,” CNN reported.

It remained unclear whether the edit to an online fact sheet reflected a deeper policy shift. The website also added a reference to Taiwan’s technological collaboration with the Pentagon, but maintained opposition to “changes to the status quo” by either Taiwan or China, which sees the island as a breakaway province it will inevitably absorb.

The new language comes after Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Beijing last month that Washington doesn’t back Taiwan’s independence.

Taiwan officials, meanwhile, welcomed the changes.

China has never controlled Taiwan. It is not theirs. The japs have a better claim to Taiwan than China does. At least it was under their control from the late 19th century until the end of the Japanese empire.

The USA does not have an Ambassador in Taiwan, however the U.S. maintains unofficial relations with the people on Taiwan through the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT). This private nonprofit corporation performs U.S. citizen and consular services similar to those at embassies.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the USA represents the interests of Taiwan in the United States.

Because in the real world there is actually a Taiwanese government that runs the place. We pretend---they pretend. The whole dance really is stupendously silly. You know me---I lean toward common sense and reality. Im a pragamatist when necessary and I get the reason we do the dance---but this whole situation has always struck me as friggin surreal. And somehow the world decided thats where we need to make the chips our tech relies on.....brilliant. 04-cheers

w/o question ...you know you have my respect ... theory is a fun game ... therefore, let's play...

once resources become strapped to the point of suffocation via economical suffixation, is the next best move to geo-align in the fiat with duality ... why can that not happen?!? ... in any capacity, bloodshed is a given...

why BRICS vs USD when the law of diminishing has become real ... it's no different than expansion and how we measure light ... it's why I play with Todor; but he's right on many a subject...

the USD, the fiat, the tulips are nothing more than a gold standard that mattered when it was backed by the 'note' ... once one abandons 'backing', you're now playing that game in reverse...

is simply another form of 'margin call' ... 04-cheers

If we make the chips there that support our satellites, AI, and other defense platforms and our most likely adversary is 81 miles from their border and hostile toward them in policy then we absolutely need to recognize their status, send an ambassador and share their defense costs with the Japanese, Australians, and Kiwis. It is in all of our self interests to keep Taiwan healthy and close. Only dire things will eventually happen if we don't!

that's XACLY! correct ... if the globe were to be sliced in half while we all still rely upon resourcing that would develop best method w/o bias (food/energy/water), it's in everyone's best interest to drive to equilibrium w/o all the drivel from the WRH fagoos...

it's why I'm okay with today's version by aligning nationalism and the tariff ... IMO, it should've happened a long time ago...
