Exactly what I was thinking. The only people who had to "learn" anything was the incoming freshmen and the incoming coaches. The rest of the players already "know" the system and they way things are done.

True freshmen don't usually see the field very much in their first year unless they are just plain exceptional players.

Here's what I said when we hired Silverfield (almost verbatim)

Both Fuente and Norvell were P5 OC's by the time they were 33 years old. That is VERY impressive. Silverfield is 40 and has never been an OC/DC prior to his promotion to HC.

That said, I think Silverfield has his act together and it's pretty obvious the team is held together well. Not much drama, not too many stupid penalties, no really obvious coaching/preparation errors.

The issue is what is Silverfield's ceiling? I think this season is a good indication of what his floor is for obvious reasons (being his first season). I worry about the fact that we lose a ton on offense after this year and offense is all we really have.

We will find out more this off-season in terms of recruiting, etc.. Silverfield will get - barring a major breakdown - a full 4 years. I don't think his floor is so bad that he would get fired anytime before 4 years.
