I'm pretty sure a H/H with ASU was on the books pre-COVID, but yeah. Coach Drew did confirm during his WAC media day interview that the ASU game is officially back on (for now, anyway).

I was talking more about this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.azcentr...p/97949082

Still a touchy subject for some ASU grads.

Oh, yeah. I'm very familiar with Dr. Crow's previous position on playing GCU in athletics contests and how furious he was that GCU was even given an exhibition game to open the arena in 2011. I'm pretty sure that was the genesis of the original Crow-imposed "ban" on playing GCU.

Anyway, speaking as an ASU grad and someone who grew up in an ASU family, I really don't see an issue with playing GCU. However, also being a Lopes athletics fan, I am admittedly biased.

So how'd you become a fan of a school you didn't attend?

I grew up in the neighborhood previously right behind then Grand Canyon College, though WHERE I grew up is now almost in the dead-center of campus. I have friends who attended and were student athletes at the College. More recently, I have completed various graduate studies at GCU. As far as athletics goes, I gave up on ASU basketball after the Stevin Smith and Mario Bennett days. With the exception of when Eddie House was part of the program (my undergrad days), it never really felt like ASU was committed to success in basketball. That was fine for me, as I grew up loving (and still do) ASU football way more anyway.

I attended my first GCU basketball game back in 2011 and was immediately hooked. With no strong allegiance to ASU hoops and GCU not having a football team to compete for my fandom there, it was real easy to embrace the program as it grew. Along the way, our family checked out some of the other teams on campus (because having free things to do when you're a parent is VITAL) and now probably enjoy cheering several other GCU teams as much (if not more) than we do MBB.

So, anyway. That's it. Sorry you asked! HAHA!
