After wife's stem cell transplant six years ago fly vaccination was mandated, not optional. Wife never did it before but doctors warned that flu would no longer be an "annoying illness", it could be deadly. I'm sorry for your wife's situation.

Given her situation, you absolutely should take extraordinary precautions... wearing gloves and masks when in public and washing hands frequently... even wearing clear glasses... and avoiding crowds etc... It's a meme, but yeah... pretend you just ate crawfish at all times...

But your situation is perhaps 25% of the population (including the elderly)... and the other 75% (or some silly portion of it) is making that more difficult for you. Similarly, anyone who 'looks at you funny' if you engage in the above just doesn't know your situation.... so ignore it.
