The fact that some of you think the current response is perfect and the other half of you are nihilistic about it isn't surprising. However, the US definitely could be doing more on a local and global level; to think otherwise is either some sort of weird hero worship of the current admin as infallible or a retarded nihilistic view that nothing could have been done anyway.

Seriously. To think "nothing could have been done better" is not an American attitude.

You answered with an opinion that you can back up with nothing but supposition. When this has run it's course, or at least when we have enough cases outside of China where we have reliable data, there may be some hindsight on things that could have been done better. The massive democrat-led criticism (which it appears you have began regurgitating) is at best unwarranted and at worst a shameful political game. Did Trump cut CDC funding? Yes. Has it harmed out ability to respond? Too soon to tell, and you certainly shouldn't claim that it definitely has. Schumer is picking a random number so that he can attack Trump for not spending enough. Pelosi(I think) made the comment that there is no plan of attack and the administration doesn't have a team in place and isn't briefing congress. Both are lies. A few weeks ago the coronavirus team was criticized as racist and sexist for being all white males. Last night a congressman stated there had been briefings for the past few weeks and had no idea what the dems were talking about when they say there is no communication and the administration isn't being forthcoming.

I'll give a few things I think could have been done better.

1. More comprehensive travel bans from the beginning. US citizen or not, nobody should have been allowed back. They should have been quarantined at the embassy in China or a military base nearby.
2. Travel should have been suspended from all mainland Asia from the beginning.
3. When China first refused CDC aide, Trump should have gotten on TV and Twitter and blasted them for all to see.
4. The 14 day quarantine needs to be increased to 30 days. There have been incubation outliers of 19, 24, and 27 days.
5. The Olympics should be pushed back now. Minimum of 90 days.
