So if scientists determined large gatherings in the thousands all across the country didn't cause a spike in covid cases, why are other large outdoor gatherings forbidden?

Well I'm not really sure how to feel about that.

“Officials believe the low infection rates reflect that the protests were outside, that most people wore masks and that people spent most of their time in motion, circulating through the crowd.” NPR reported last week that parties—not protests—are believed to have caused coronavirus spikes in Washington. “We’re finding that the social events and gatherings, these parties where people aren’t wearing masks, are our primary source of infection,” said Erika Lautenbach, a local county Health Department director.

I would think at the least, places like beaches, parks, golf courses have no real reason to stay closed. Maybe outdoors in general should all be open. Not sure what most states have done. We don't really have any restrictions outside and outdoor dining is heavily encouraged vs. indoor seating.

I think I'll leave you here for the night, but personally I don't buy any of those reasons.

Its just too politically correct. A bunch of scientists signed a letter saying protests were no risk before there was any data. New York banned their people from asking if people had been at protests. Now 1000 people in a bar vs. 1000 people at an outdoor protest, yes the bar will be more likely to spread it. But the latter definitely spread it as well. A few liberal city mayors (LA for one) have said it spread the virus. Houston had a spike a couple weeks after the massive funeral parade/protest and there were stories of people getting sick.
