RE: Derek Chauvin Trial
When people loot stores and take shoes after a trial or a super bowl it should tell you that they have nothing whatsoever to do with the event and are rather just people taking advantage of a situation.

Yep, no facts needed. And absolutely no reason.

Well prosecutors want to get the jury most likely to convict and the defense the opposite.

I have been called for jury duty twice in my life. I am a Navy vet, and I also happen to have a Ph.D. in business, which they discovered when they asked my education level. Very first question.
I was the first strike both times. At least I will never have to worry about serving jury duty, lol.

Not to totally derail, but I would love to serve on a jury and see it from that side. However, I’m pretty much guaranteed to be struck if I ever get called.

Lucky you. It took over 2 decades before I got called for TN jury duty, but I got pulled into capital murder trial and was sequestered. They told us that by serving on a sequestered jury that I would be able to get out of serving jury duty for another 10 years minimum. 2 years later, I get another jury duty notice. I called the guy up and said I was supposed to be exempt, and he said that was for the state of TN, this was federal. bah!
In the murder trial I was the third juror pulled out of 70 of us to go up into the pool to be questioned. (Where you get moved from the court room seats to the jury box seat) They only asked a question or two of me early, and then never came back to me. They would randomly ask a group of us questions, in no particular order, and then the defense or prosecution would strike someone, but never asked me anything again. I called my wife during a break and told her I was screwed, I was going to get seated, because they werent asking me any more questions. Sure enough.

I'm a CPA and I always get picked. Been called 9 times. Once it got snowed out. Once I didn't get on a panel. Once I was on a panel of 16 sitting outside the courtroom when they settled. They other 6 times I got in the courtroom I got on the jury.

You can always go sit in the court room and listen. Ive done that several times, sometimes for classes, other times cause I was *ahem* required to be there...
Not the full inside scoop deliberation and stuff, but still very interesting to observe.

If I was called I would outright refuse out of fear for my safety.
I would ask to speak privately and tell the judge lock me up or let me go but I'm not putting my family at this risk.

I’ve done a little trial work as a lawyer and my internship in law school had be in the courtroom a lot. I’d love to take part as a juror so I can actually experience deliberations. I want to know what’s going through their heads in real time and how they sort it all out.
Truth be told, though, I actually find trial work to be overly tedious and it’s kinda boring at times. Appellate stuff is way more interesting to me.

Attorneys are generally the first to be struck. Only had one lawyer on any of my juries.

I never get picked for jury duty in the civilian world...white, retired military officer equals immediate disqualification from the defense.
