Looks like his options are expanding -
"Danny Wolf, 6-10 big with @TheMacIrvinFire will garner plenty of high-major interest with a big Summer Chart with upwards trend Wolf said, "I model my game after Matthew Hurt. I can stretch the floor & make plays for others."Lists Va Tech, Georgia Tech, Rice & Ivy's as those pushing hard right now."

RE: A couple men's basketball recruiting notes
giovanni emereju the Italian big man by way of England who UT offered a couple months back ends up signing with Sam Houston State, a pretty solid low major program.
former MAC and WMU player Brandon Johnson uses his 6th year to transfer from Minn back home to Depaul which seems like a good fit for him.
in mid major recruiting news outside the MAC keep an eye on Milwaukee. The horizon program just signed the #4 recruit in the nation Pat Baldwin, skinny 6-9 durant type who happens to be the coaches son. Within a couple days they added a 7-1 transfer from UCF and a pretty well recruited (by mid majors) 6-7 PF, and offered a 4 star 2021 kid and could be in another 2020 4 star hometown kid who just transferred out of georgetown. not sure how long baldwin stays before going to the NBA but Milwaukee will be a factor in the horizon for the near future and if one of these other 4 star kids signs they could be a top 25 team. doesn't directly impact UT, but good for mid major basketball and should be a fun home n home for the couple of MAC programs that usually play Milwaukee each year.

Toledo has just offered 6-0 Point Guard Tavari Johnson for the 2022 Class. He plays at Lyons Township High School in La Grange, IL. The Chicago Sun Times Newspaper said last month that Johnson may be the "best kept secret in Illinois" as he did not play his sophomore year and his junior year was limited to only 17 games due to COVID. They also said he has a "beautiful blend of taking care of the basketball, facilitating, and plenty of scoring ability from the point guard position." Johnson has also received offers from Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Cleveland State.

Stan Heath with a good late recruiting addition with former rockets offer Mo Njie. big guy with some ohio roots listed between 6-8 to 6-10 who had a strange recruiting cycle, getting some quality offers soph/jr year, then watching interest taper off, and now heading to a lower level mac program.

Perfect player for them: young big with upside who did have a strange recruitment. Indicates he did not grow/improve as some better programs expected and/or he had a higher opinion of himself than those recruiting him.
He'll play at EMU. It will be up to him to rise to All-MAC caliber ... or not.
Also looks like Kent and Central Michigan have picked up some players, although their names are not in front of me. CMU has been particularly busy!

I think the MAC in general got better. Don’t see many league teams as bottom feeders like we saw last year with Central, Western, Eastern and Northern.

RE: A couple men's basketball recruiting notes
Interesting 2022 offer by TK. Stepping in with the big boys and offering 4 star Michigan guard Jevaughn Hannah. Kid has had a bunch of major offers for a while but posted that he had a long talk with TK and it led to an offer. Not sure what to think, but the landscape in college basketball is changing and some higher ranked players are going to lower profile schools. Hannah is from Mt Clemens just NW of Detroit. he transferred to Ypsi prep last yr and played on that loaded team with emoni bates that was on ESPN several times but just announced his intention to return to his hometown HS for his senior yr. not unusual to see the Rockets offer a 3 or 4 star kid early in the recruiting process hoping to build a connection and catch a break, but uncommon for the staff to offer a guy who already has his pick of P6 programs. I'm thinking there's a reason we are making the effort...

Keyon Menifield Jr just got a Toledo offer. Also offers from Cleveland St and EMU. He had announced a few days ago he was headed to prep school. He has been playing at several showcase events and doing well. Pono knows his stuff and can fill the rest of you in.

per the prompt, I can weigh in a little, but haven't seen a lot of menifield. very skinny 6 foot guard with really good feel for scoring. one of those guys who is a scorer more than a shooter or pg or sg. quick, smooth, good w both hands, but size will limit his offers. rockets have made a move on several higher rated 2022 guys over the past couple months and menifield would not be at the top of my list w no available scholarships (but the likelihood of a couple opening up w the way transfers are these days). it's not that i don't think he can make plays on offense or will succeed in the MAC (under-recruited small guards like him often overachieve in the MAC), just that we got more rounded bigger guys on our radar.
a justin ingram offer, btw. sometimes who leads the recruiting tells you a lot about the level of UT interest. now, to offer a guy the whole staff needs to buy in on the scouting, but it's interesting to try and catch who is the lead recruiter. offutt recruits a lot. massey not as much. lauf did an interview explaining how in his staff position he cannot do in person recruiting, so he honed his job as a video coordinator to mesh with international scouting. so, he can be a lead scout and recruiter for guys none of the staff is likely to travel and see for in person scouting and recruiting. sounds like coach k played a bigger role in the recruiting and offer to jevaughn hannah the mt clemen's, MI kid who has been highly recruited nationally but strangely had no local offers with UM and MSU lightly recruiting him and most of the MAC level schools viewing him as out of their reach. i imagine he is #1 or #2 on our board. also like elmore james the burly cleveland guard whose best D1 offer of 10 or so is probably toledo. however, his recruiting is hot and big name programs are starting to recruit him harder. i also like chubby but quick bog guy out of suburban chicago danny wolf. UT was his best offer a month ago but recently depaul, harvard and minnesota have offered. TK's philosophy is to recruit hard locally and beyond. to offer a lot of kids but zero in on a few of the better ones to really go after. i no longer have the connections i used to for getting bits of insider recruiting gossip. so, i'm just guessing on who they like a lot and who is a "soft" offer.

GENERALLY SPEAKING ... it seems the MAC picked up several rotational pieces from the A-10 and a couple of other bigger leagues who could be starter-type double-figure producers in the MAC. I think Carter back to Ohio is a given, maybe even a dbl-dbl guy. If there are one or two others like him I do not know.
A Nuga type would be impactful as well. But even he was just a 10 ppg scorer prior to the MAC. One thing that seems to stick out is several post players of various success levels are coming into the league so that will be interesting to follow.
For all the well-earned notoriety JPreston had at Ohio, Wilson was arguably the most important player on the team as he kept the opposition honest on the block. Not prolific, but you left him alone at your own peril. Kept a lot of double-teams off the perimeter shooters.
We'll see if there is more of that around the league this coming season.
BTW ... does anybody have a sense for say the top 3/4 transfer guards ... transfer wings ... transfer posts coming into the league?

some buzz about JPreston staying in the draft. has been impressive in workouts and is a probably 2nd round pick. the question is if he prefers that over coming back for a big year of college ball and a possible 1st round or lottery pick in 22 if he can show some improvement on a couple weaknesses-the scouts like his strengths a lot.
i've been paying more attention to transfers than i should. In addition to carter (a 1 year guy) i think UT got one of the best in rjay dennis, mid sized pretty athletic pg with a lot of game who can play defense and has 3 years to grow. kent got 2 of the best in sincere carey, a proven good A-10 pg with all around skills. plus, andrew garcia who was all league w stony brook and then was an effective 6th man for a year w georgia. big power guard/garbage man with good touch around the rim who will buily softer mac sg/sf types-1 year guy. they also got a young, unproven but super athletic big man from vandy. BG may not have signed a top 3 transfer but they got 4 good ones-3 bigger guards and a 6-8 forward-the guards mostly all league type players in lower D1 leagues, and the big a solid cusa starter. cmu signed 3 transfers who probably aren't top 3 transfers but will play a lot and maybe have good numbers. walton going from ball st to akron is a key move. personally, i really like the direction of NIU, they went with high upside athletic guys w size from stronger leagues. none are a sure thing or proven as college starters, but all could end up as very good mac players. buffalo added 2 under the radar A10 guards from george washington and fordham. both are proven shooters which was UB's undoing last season. with a veteran core that's good at everything but shooting from deep, they could be key additions.

EMU just got this transfer from East Carolina.
https://www.zagsblog.com/2021/03/25/ecus...ks-future/
great pickup for EMU. i remember him being a big recruit for ECU. One of those guys whose recruitment peaked early in HS and cooled toward the end, somewhat like Mo Njie, the former UT recruit who recently signed w EMU.
Seeing Heath and Burno at NIU really recruit for upside and higher level athleticism, finding guys who have had offers/played for programs in stronger leagues but didn't quite pan out at that level.
