So a 10 bowl season?

Mind telling us how you arrived at that number from my comments?

I would make it a requirement that teams needed at least a 7-5 record to get into Bowls.

I am assuming you meant a million per team.

That eliminates:
Cure
Quick Lane
Bahamas
Armed Forces
Potato
Frisco
Arizona
New Orleans
Camellia

Eliminating minimum ticket purchases would cut 200-250K minimum from each team's payouts
That would lower the following to below the $1M threshold:
New Mexico
Boca Raton
Gasparilla
Hawaii
Cheez-it
Possibly Independence Bowl

OK - so more than 10, but a significant cut

I will never understand why people complain about football being on TV. The alternative is watching Christmas movies over and over and over and over and over...and over.

Not sure how the $200-250k minimum you mention reduces the payout, but still there are what 34-38 bowl games.... minus 14 leaves at least 20 or more..

A bowl derives the money to do the pay out from sponsorships TV rights and ticket sales Takeaway mandatory ticket sales are from teams and they will lose a big chunk of income

Taking the MAC as an example here they pool all of their bowl revenues and then the conference offices reimburses their expenses.

Its not a bad model when the MAC has 5 teams bowling with 7-5 records but when the MAC has 8 teams bowling including two of them at 6-6 and another at 5-7 taking under 1,000 fans to a bowl game it becomes more of a money loser.

That is why its better to have a 7-5/6-6 system from the MAC perspective where there are 5-6 less bowls but those who remain are stronger financially. Bowls are less frequent so you'll send better numbers to each game.

I can see where lower tier P5 programs like the idea of unlimited bowl games to help with recruiting because to be honest its the only way some of them are getting into a bowl but its not as cost efficient for the G5 conferences with the 6-6/5-7 model.

7-5/6-6 is not a real big difference from 6-6/5-7 overall but it would save the G5 probably 500,000 in expenses.

RE: What would you change to bowl season?
How many bowls would a 7-5/6-6 actually be?

I will go back 5 years to beginning of the CFP lineups to see the maximum amount of 7 win teams each conference had through that period to determine the overall number of slots.

7 game winners 2014-18

ACC 11
AAC 7
XII 7
B1G 9
CUSA 8
Indy 3
MAC 7
MWC 7
PAC 8
SEC 12
SBC 5

The number of bowl slots then is 84 or 42 bowl games.

Its only 1 less than we have right now.
