I heard from someone close to the program he had been telling the guys on the team he was going to NC State. Then we all laughed.

NC State seems a little desperate at the moment with the sanctions and people leaving, etc. You never know. One of the problems with this transfer epidemic is you have coaches (or "friends" of coaches) that get in your ear and make promises they usually don't end up keeping.

Yeah. Figured that list had to be a blow to his ego. The good news is he could be a game changer for any one of them

I assume that we won't be playing Towson again in the near future.

It will be interesting to see who gets to play in the NCAA Tournament first - Michael Hueitt or Old Dominion. Of the teams on that list I think he would fit in well at Charleston, plus it isn't too far from home.

Its not a bad list of schools. Hampton is getting ready to join the Big South, so thats a step up from the MEAC. Those CAA teams sadly are about as good as we are these days and in a slightly higher rated conference. As much as I love ODU, if I had to do it over again, I'd be tempted to look at CoC and Towson. Towson is another school that has caught up to (and in some cases surpassed) Old Dominion over the last 20 years.

How exactly has Towson passed ODU?

Have you been on their campus lately? Its become quite attractive and the student body has begun to develop a bit of school pride. They're drawing some pretty well regarded students from the northeast these days. They have also become more prestigious academically. If you're speaking strictly from an athletic perspective... no, they have not surpassed us, but have caught up to us in basketball. 20 years ago, ODU was light years ahead of Towson athletically and academically.

No, they have not.

Towson is a decent basketball school, but I'm not sure they have been a better team than us more than 2-3 times in the last 20 years.

None of the schools that offered are in the same league as us. We would dominate the ten team CAA. As would Middle or WKU.

Did William & Mary leave the CAA?

And how did b&m fair against us when we played in the CAA? Playing every year home and home and in a tournament is a very different situation than the current arrangement. We owned them - and we would own them if we went back. CAA is a one bid league with virtually no presence in the NIT and always will be. It’s one of the reasons vcu left.

Hard to make a rational argument that ODU would dominate a team that has won the last 5 or 6 games against them by saying that it would be different if ODU was back in the CAA instead of where they are - CUSA. Are you saying that ODU would have a different team? A different coach?

What happened between ODU and W&M 10-15 years ago when ODU was in the CAA and had a different coach running the show means nothing with regards to what is taking place over the Jeff Jones / C-USA era for ODU. Simply put, ODU isn't the same team they were 10 years ago - they are not at the same level.

This team would certainly not dominate the CAA right now. We would be near the top, but we would not dominate.

Unless we get some quality big men transfers, we would be lucky to finish in the middle of the pack.
