I think we all agree this is it, the last season for him to do it or not. If JJ gets us to the NCAA this coming season, we should all be happy. He keeps the job and maybe it's the start of something good. If he doesn't and is let go then we should all be happy because we get a fresh start. Yes, some think he should be gone now. I don't think that's practical at this point.

I said nothing about having hope because I don't know the eventual makeup of this roster. I'm taking a wait and see. It's foolish to to me to make a prediction at this point without knowing who's here to play.

Gotcha.

JJ has a lot of work to do in the next few weeks. Here's hoping he gets it done.

Yeah, he does, and I hope he gets it done, too. There are some nice pieces in place everywhere 'cept close to the basket.

Any kin to Jason Wade?

These would be good for the future, but we are in desperate need of big men now.

With Hueitt leaving, that gives us 3 scholarships open, correct?

I know we need bigs but I'm also being realistic in expectations. Bigs that would actually help us are now getting over-recruited. I just saw Lukas Kisunas is visiting Arizona soon. Crazy.

And 3 sounds right. I dont know if they're related but he can play PG and SG. And it sounds like we could use another PG, since some have said Kithcart isnt what they thought.

Back when football teams could have as many players as they wanted, it wasn't unusual for a team to offer a guy just so he wouldnt go play for the competition. Perhaps similarly, the way some of these transfers being over-recruited is simply a P5 having a spot or two open, and they'd rather put a kid at the end of their bench than risk the possibility of them playing for a competitor and hurting them.

But, when the put the smaller, more athletic Carver (prolly 6-5 220) in; both had much more difficulties scoring. Besides, there are many very good post up players in college basketball and even less of them play "power forward." The ones that can do both are great players that likely aren't playing too many games vs. CUSA schools.

You don't have to shoot a bunch of 3s to play BJ (or others) at the 4. It spreads out the court for other things as well. And a player that only shoots 3 wasn't one of the best players on the team as a true freshman.

"One of the best players on the team as a true freshman" (your comment), and "his best young 3 point shooter" (my comment) are not one and the same thing Giles. I didn't even remotely make the point that you are mysteriously replying to.

Justin Johnson just became a significant 3 point shooter this season. He was also a very good player in the years prior to this one. During Johnson's Sophomore and Junior years he was mostly guarded by one of ODU's all time best defenders at the 4 position (Denzel Taylor), who also happens to match up physically better with Johnson than BJ ever could. Over the prior 2 seasons Johnson scored a total of 65 points against ODU over 5 games. Only 12 of those points were scored on 3 point shots - less than (1) 3 pointer per game. If he could score that many against Denzel inside then I'm sure he would have fared much better with BJ guarding him as the opposing 4, and that was my original point about BJ guarding bigger, stronger 4's like Johnson inside. Can't believe that you would feel differently about that hypothetical match-up. Do you honestly think BJ could cover a man like Johnson inside as well or better than Denzel?

You so desperately want Jones to turn ODU into Villanova. Guess what! So does everyone else. Unfortunately, that old saying about having to dance with the girl you brought with you comes to mind. From observation, Jeff is more of a slow dance kind of guy. Villanova is more rock and roll. Jeff will be sitting the dance out till the next slow song starts because that is who he is. He needs a dance partner (players) that dance to his music, not Villanova's.

EDIT: Another thing ... A 4 player that can adequately defend another good sized 4 player inside doesn't have to be "a slow big guy". I know that description fits your argument best, but that's all it does. There is a wide group of players in between the two groups that you seem to want to limit things to with Group (A) being to play a natural small forward (a 3) at the 4 position because he can shoot 3's better, and Group (B) being a "slow big guy" at the 4 position that plays solely inside offensively. Think more of guys like Valdas, Keyon Carter, Arnaud Dahi, etc. as being the kind of guys that ODU wants as a 4 player, at least while Jeff is coaching. I'm optimistic that the freshman coming in from GA might be a good fit at the 4 if he can get learn the system soon enough to play for Jeff this season. Who knows?

I don't really feel like getting into this for the 1000th time. I agree to disagree. I will just say we don't need to be like Villanova. The game has changed to where you cannot play primarily back to the basket guys next to each other (except rare instances). Whatever you do on offense is typically offset with how your big guys are abused on defense due to forcing them to play in space. If your 4 is a big guy that is athletic and can shoot, then that is a good advantage to have (and if he's worth a ****, he's probably going to a big school).

The team would not get abused defensively with BJ at the 4. It may even improve with the ability to switch 1 through 4.

That's a pretty rotten statement to make. Many of our most loyal fans and donors go into the Big Blue Room or the VIP lounge. Most of those fans, if not all, began following the team when the team was enjoying a high rate of success whether it goes back to the 70's, 80's 90's etc. . To infer these fans only care to go to the game to socialize is wrong. It's also wrong to think just because someone chooses not to get caught up in the "hate Jeff Jones" crap that you seem to enjoy spewing, that all these Big Blue attendees are just happy to have a team and a place to go. I don't know you but I can guarantee you I know a lot of those Big Blue Room attendees and the ones I know are as passionate as any other part of our fan base we have. So, you have a right to complain about Jones or any coach we have but it's wrong to try to group some of our most loyal fans into a box because they are not jumping on this board to praise your posts.

Give 'em Hell, Jerry! I agree fully with you. I think the 8-12 people who post hate constantly and repetitively the same thing ad nausem must have no sunshine in their lives!

Not everyone that complains about the status quo is a depressed loser. Many of us are extremely passionate fans that want the best for our university.

There was another group of disgruntled people who constantly and repetitively complained about their situation and "spewed hate". We call them the "Founding Fathers." If they had passively accepted the status quo, we would still have a king.

Yes, I know this is hyperbole, but the analogy is valid. Voicing displeasure is a means to change. Quiet acceptance....not so much.

Does an email from someone they have never met really carry that much more impact than scanning a message board? I don't think so. Besides, the original post specified "in person". I can't physically meet in person.

My posting on a message board tallies my position on one side of the ledger or the other; pro or con on the current administration. It's part of the broader collective. I'm either in the majority or minority. I have to believe someone in the administration looks at these boards. I know Harry Minium does.

Sending an email and not getting a response is one thing. Not even trying is completely different (which is what OP said). And that's not the only medium we have access to; twitter, facebook, Insta, etc.

Further, if any of y'all reached out to ODAF on Twitter or email, yall would know that setting up a phone call within an hour or two is a breeze. Tell them your expectations and what you're willing to give or purchase if they met those goals. Better yet, call them directly. Their contact information is readily available.

A lot of us aren't "ranting and raving", we're expressing our displeasure in the program. Many of us aren't able to or aren't willing to get personally involved in communicating with the administration. If we're summarily dismissed because we don't, then ODU will suffer. There is a silent majority(minority?) that already has begun to express its views by not attending games. I think that number will grow next year.

Somewhere between flaming-butthead and sycophant there is a big Bell Curve of fan support. I'm under the Bell Curve, but sliding toward the Anti-Jones skinny end.

Having Jones as a coach doesn't make me angry, it makes me sad. I remember when ODU basketball was competitive on the larger stage and fun. It's not anymore. Licking the icing off cupcakes and getting blown out by good teams isn't working for me. It's like taking your cousin to the prom. Sure, you have a date, but everyone thinks you're a loser.

In the past, my wife and I attended at least two games/year. Understand, we lived out-of-state, had to take time off from work, had to travel and stay in a hotel for 2-3 days, etc. Not a ton of actual support, but significant to us in that it took vacation and a couple of thousand dollars to do. In addition, I had a subscription to Monarch Media/CUSA TV to watch all the games I could.

Flash forward to this year. No actual games attended. No subscription to Monarch Media/CUSA TV. I watched what I could free. I cared enough to do that, but not enough to pay for any streaming services. Maybe ODU doesn't care if they lose my limited support. Granted, they're not losing much financially. However, if enough folks like me do the same, it will add up.

Whether you, ODU or anyone else agrees with my views on the direction of the program is irrelevant to me. My decision is mine alone. I've been a fan of ODU since 1982, but I'm losing interest and getting frustrated. Between now and dead, I have to decide how I spend my time to maximize my happiness. Right now, ODU sports isn't real high on my priority list. I hope that changes. I truly do.

Knew a response like this was coming.

MarylandMonarch why the hell havent you had a skype interview with Wood and Jones?! I mean WTH? Better yet, why havent you sent an email that you know will probably never be returned? How dare you lol

Yall act like some of us here are BFF's with the staff and admin. I'm damn sure not going to waste my time sending emails that will never get a nod of attention, let alone a response.

+80 million...

But nah....way easier to just rant and rave on here. Empty complaints. Maybe if they hit 20,000 posts Broderick will give them a call

I truly do.

Nailed it. I live three hours away and attend 3 to 5 games per year, if for no other reason, to build a new generation of fans from my daughter and her friends.

What is sad, though, is that she and her friends have yet to experience that special, memorable win that I have grown accustomed to. No VCU victories, No Conference titles, no Tourney Bids, no VT, Seth Greenbags, UVA wins, etc.

It's hard to get new fans watching us blow out 300+ RPI teams.

JJ needs to either recruit up and schedule up, or retire.

Wait...I hope nobody took my post as me saying that you can't or shouldn't post about your displeasure on here. All I meant was that people seem to think that if you are not bashing Jones on here, you are satisfied with the job he has done. That is simply not the case.

Much like in Jaws, you are going to need a bigger boat as there will be more and more folks with you.

You're going to need a bigger boat full of people with money to share your opinions and pass them along to the AD. If you have a nice cash cow to dangle that carrot in front of Wood and Broderick then they'll listen. Otherwise its going to be "we appreciate your concerns and support of ODU, blah blah blah" form letter response.

When I took the time to formally express to them my concerns as a 40+ year contributor, I did not even get the courtesy of that type of response. They are great at getting you an extra Big Blue Room pass and stuff like that but on the big stuff, not so much. Sadly, much like AC/DC, they are on the highway to hell.
