Also have fond memories of having windows in the suite open during a blizzard and it was still really hot in there.
Great times, The Village has no peers at James Madison.
Eagle Hall is a peer, but albeit a different experience, and one that I will never forget nor would I trade! Some of the nastiest elevators and bathrooms on the weekend, those cleaning crews were saints, and it was ALWAYS hot!
That building is a dump and always was. A friend of mine's daughter stayed there a couple years ago and we went in. I can't imagine how students can be students and live in there.

My freshman year, the bathrooms would get so nasty after the weekends that the housekeepers were a sight for sore eyes.
Yep, it was amazing what "college freedom" meant to some people = no respect for shared spaces (and sometimes other people's private spaces...)

There are plans for renovation of the Farm, no time has been set I was out there a few weeks ago to look at some facilites. The Farm was a great place for alumni parties until Aramark got the dining contract, now JMU requires all food and drink be bought through them. The no alcohol policy killed the great party atmosphere at the farm, so no one uses it any more,

The MRD's used to have the end of band camp party at the farm. I think the last one was in '89. We used a pavilion near the Convo after that.

End of camp is what I meant, thanks. I would've been at the one in '89 which was my last year as an MRD

Wasn't Weaver all dudes? Or am i confusing it with Ikenberry? As you can guess from my name, I am a huge fan of White Hall. Awesome freshman year. the kids that are now complaining about the heat, suck it up. It's only hot the first couple weeks of fall semester. I hope they never tear down the village.

Garber used to be all male (thus its nickname which would be filtered out by this site) but by the time I was a freshman in 94 it was co-ed. I lived in Ikenberry the next year, also co-ed.

Not sure when the Village went co-ed, but back in the day, I'm pretty sure they were all single-sex. However, the visitation and party rules were way lax. If there were any rules about kegs or girls in the rooms/suites, nobody ever enforced them.
Except at Garber. Back in the 80s, Garber was limited-visitation, which meant no girls overnight, and all girls had to be out by like 8:00 or something. Hence, the name that would be filtered on this site.
The girls had a similar no-boys dorm we called the Virgin Vault - forget which one it was.

Yeah, as far as I was aware, none of those rules apply anymore today. I think every dorm is co-ed, some even have co-ed floors. The school realizes they're all adults and anyone can come or go at any hour they want.

Will the Wilson renovation remove the auditorium? Just wondering where medium-scale shows will go for UPB. Even for the duration of the reno would they just have TDU and the Convo? Or does the Forbes Center let them use that for a couple shows a year?

Ok, if the history department is moving into Wilson, where are all the executive offices going? Or have they already been moved elsewhere?
Which executive offices? Most (President and I think VPs) are housed in Alumnae Hall.

Without intimate knowledge of the project, if the History Dept moves into Wilson Hall, they gotta be keeping the auditorium right? haha. I'm confident the job is basically a gut and rebuild for modern systems and codes, while keeping a similar building layout.

What I was hoping. The work they'd have to do to turn the auditorium would be huge. It could definitely use an update after a century of use.
I think they're really just increasing security systems for the cupola...

Those. I thought they were in Wilson when I was there in the 90s. That's why I asked had they already been moved.

Gotcha. Not sure when the move happened (others may have more knowledge, Longhorn could probably answer it), but they had moved when I got there in 04 I'm pretty sure. Definitely by the time I graduated. At that point Wilson was orientation, reading/math labs, and some other random offices. It's nice to see JMU making an effort to bring departments together and related student affairs departments together.

The move of administrative offices (Prez, etc.) happened early under Rose. Wilson auditorium will remain an auditorium. Forbes scheduling is under the priority use of the College of Fine Arts, and besides, the seating capacity of the concert hall is only half of Wilson.

I believe the virgin vault was the converted hospital by Hillside. In my freshman year, most of the Village was co-ed but ikenberry was all boys and Dingledine was all girls. There may have been one single sex dorm.

President and staff temporarily to relocate in Wilson 1st floor so an elevator can be put in Alumni. Then they go back. Wilson to get a complete renovation including the auditorium. Maybe a 2 year project to start in November.
