Think 20 year olds and younger will sue them for every dime and demand they be closed?

It is a possibility, but of course, its their business and they can do whatever they please with it

That's my take. They want to not sell a product - knock yourselves out.

As someone else already noted - this latest announcement only affects Field & Stream stores - 35 stores I believe........mach ado about not much.

Its corporate 'virtue signaling'.

I haven't been in a Target Store since their bathroom blowup. And I really don't care about their bathrooms. If they had put in a bathroom for 4 different genders I would still be shopping there. I stopped shopping there because they were basically bowing to social activists to 'virtue signal' for marketing purposes. Like I'll never go to the gun range that banned their non-existent Muslim customers just to make news.

I heard this on Fox this morning as I was driving in.

Sometimes if Congress won't help, businesses do. I see nothing wrong in what they're doing. If they don't feel comfortable selling ARs anymore or want to raise the limit on what age, I think they're well within their right.

Those not happy will take business elsewhere.

On behalf of Cabela's, Gander Mountain, etc......

Thank you.

I'm sure they'll be more than happy to take Dick's business.

I used to go to Dick's a lot until they started getting woke a few years ago. I would rather order and pay shipping than go to a Dick's.

There is nothing you can buy at Dicks that you can’t find for a ton less online. Unless it’s an emergency and you absolutely need it today, not sure why anyone goes there.

Yep, this may actually be a desperate plea for business. Their stock is in the toilet, down around 50% in the past 16 months (hard to imagine in this market/economy).

They already don't sell rifles and have no significant foothold in the gun culture, so they figure why not try to become the sporting goods outlet for the "woke" alt-left?

Sad.

I recall their CEO on the commercial during the super bowl basically saying she knows they are not relevant but they are going to try do better. Those messages mean they know how screwed they are. Their business model made sense a decade or more ago but nowadays they are paying a king’s ransom for big box retailer leases to compete to sell the exact same equipment being sold by multiple online retailers for far, far less. Good luck with that.

Unless they can pull a rabbit out of their hat like Best Buy (price match + free delivery), their bankruptcy is not a matter of if, but when.

The woke alt-left outdoors people already have sporting goods suppliers that they like. Mostly specialty stuff online. Not sure they need a big-box supplier that also carries golf-balls and fishing sonar.

I don’t get the “own or possess” part.

So, if a kid is out with his Pa on the 1200 acre ranch in south Texas, and has a rifle in tow to fend off rattlesnakes, coyotes or smugglers, is he subject to arrest?
Plenty of ten-twelve year olds hunt with their fathers or uncles/grandpas whomever, are they now banned from learning responsible gun ownership and use?

RE: Dick's Sporting Goods
Many local gun stores also have an online presence under a different company that they sell products at drastically reduced prices and low margins even with the $25 FFL transfer/background check fee factored in on the end of the transaction. Yes, internet gun sales still require the federal form 4473 and passing the fed background check....idiots in the media and liberal politicians often still screw that up in their talking points...I think on purpose to confuse the anti gun lemmings.

I asked one company based out of Florida why they undercut their own in store pricing and they explained that the people that would buy in store would still buy in store...and since I am out of state I am not walking in their store...they’d rather make a couple bucks shipping to my FFL dealer than make nothing on a sale I gave to someone else. They mostly drop ship straight from distributor warehouses so they never take it into inventory anyways. Their infrastructure for that part of their business model is technology only without rent, employees, and all of the other mortar biz costs that drive up pricing at the last step of the chain before the consumer.

Long story short, Dicks gun counter has been irrelevant for many moons and was way overpriced and exceedingly limited even when their model was not a complete dinosaur. The same online model that drives gun sales away from Dicks also applies to baseball bats, golf clubs, shoes, sports clothing and all other gear. People must just love throwing money away if they still use them.

They're thinking about potential liability. No big deal. There are other sources. If I was buying that type of gun, I wouldn't even think of Dick's. I would be looking for someone who specialized in gun sales.

That and the “enlightened lefts” war on football ( lacrosse will be next), trying to turn all kids into video game playing slobs or soccer players has cut sales of that equipment significantly in the last 10-15 years.

And if you think about outfitting a team of 35 kids in all that gear, it’s not an insignificant sum, all the way down to socks and mouthpieces.

You joking?

Damn right there’s a war on football, from the youth/little league to the NFL. Just look at the lawsuits and programs being closed.

I always felt anything at Dicks was about 25% overpriced. It's an emergency grab for me as well.

I see it as parents making a decision for their kids. Kinda like Archie Manning keeping his kids out of tackle football until they were in 7th grade or Tom Brady not playing until 9th.
