Then there's another one that Bostick and Cruz were talking about.

Looks like we just landed another commit as Bostick has tweeted his Owl meme.

RE: [split] Baseball Recruiting 2021 and beyond - Swede Owl - 09-13-2021 11:09 AM

Looks like another Miami-area kid judging by the “305” reference in his tweet

Not a player commit but Cody Derby tweets out he will be joining the staff as the baseball trainer.

That's a big upgrade. I like Adrian personally, but I now many of the parents were not happy with the way he treated their son's injuries.

Marco Fuentes is probably that Miami recruit. 6-3, RHP (another Class of 2022) - hits 91 on the fastball but has been clocked recently at 93.

Congrats to 2022 RHP @Marco22Fuentes on his commitment to @RiceBaseball &
@RiceUniversity. The power arm out of Miami and @EliteSquad has proven to be electric on the hill. The @RiceAthletics Owls add a really good arm here to
@ConferenceUSA. Nice work, Marco!

Look, we obviously don't have the money to throw around that the Arkansas' and LSU's of the baseball world have, BUT we have a pretty impressive trophy display case of our own, indoor batting cages with analytics, indoor pitching facility allowing for multiple bullpen sessions....and will soon be adding the pitching lab and, eventually, a hitting lab. Our locker room and lounge area was significantly upgraded several years ago....and the team works out and rehabs in Patterson.

The focus and emphasis of Cruz and company-- what they'll be selling to prospective recruits-- is development over gloss...and they aim to have the best, most state-of-the-arts development tools and facilities anywhere in college baseball. In fact, according to Bostick, with regards to our pitchers, only several MLB clubs will have what we'll shortly have in place.

Spot on Walt. Any player that has pro aspirations will do well to consider Rice. As you said, unfortunately, the "gloss" holds sway on some recruits. Rice has the facilities now to compete and, as you said, will soon surpass many of those programs in development tools.

And now we have a MLB caliber (from the Tigers organization) trainer for the baseball program.

So, you’re both saying we won’t just be lipstick on a pig? Um, er, apparently glossy lipstick at that.

Berkman with a big pickup on the recruiting trail with catcher Dylan Larue.

His brother, Tyler Larue, played for Rice very briefly during the Bragga era (pandemic interrupted).

Looks like we just landed another one-- both Cheito and Bostick just tweeted their war owl memes.

RE: [split] Baseball Recruiting 2021 and beyond - Fort Bend Owl - 09-28-2021 08:04 PM

Looks like Landon West, younger brother of current true freshman Graiden West. Like his brother, he's from Katy Tompkins High - he's a 6-3 catcher (?) - current junior, class of 2023.

Yup, he just announced on twitter. This one is HUGE. A&M and UT were all over him. In fact, A&M was calling him when he visited Rice over the weekend. He's a catcher who plays for the elite Twelve Baseball traveling club. This is the new regime's biggest get yet (outside of the transfers). Here's his announcement and Mark Berman's interview with him...

Quote:Landon West
@LandonWest
I am excited to announce that I have committed to Rice University to continue my athletic and baseball career. Big thanks to all of my coaches and mentors throughout the years! God is good! #hootem

Catcher @LandonWest, from Katy Tompkins,who committed to @RiceBaseball (2023class),chose the Owls over “Texas,Texas A&M & UTSA.” Says Coach Jose Cruz Jr “really swayed me that way. I was excited to play for a great coach in the Houston area” Landon’s brother Graiden plays for Rice

Judging by the tweets from Coach Cruz and Bostick, looks like we have landed another good one. Now, we wait to see who it is....

I believe it's Jackson Brasseux, North Lamar (formerly Katy), LHP/switch hitting OFer, 5'11", 160lb, class of 2023...

...however, he deleted the tweet shortly after posting it. Odd.
