[split] Baseball Recruiting 2021 and beyond
According to Cory Barton's animated dancing owl tweet, we just landed another one. And it appears to be....

I am extremely blessed and honored to announce the furthering of my academic and baseball career at Rice University!OwlBlue heart
...OF/UT Class of 2022 from Prosper, TX. Left-handed speedster. Also, a very highly regarded football prospect, but it appears he's committing exclusively for baseball.

Outfielder @_jacobdevenny (class of 2022), from Prosper, Tx (@ThePHSBaseball), on why he committed to @RiceBaseball: “I picked Rice because, not only is it going to pay off athletically with their program, the academics at Rice, there’s just a never-ending future with it.”

RE: Baseball Recruiting
And Cory Barton just tweeted yet another commit, our second in two days.
BTW, Baseball America just gave a shout out to Rice (along with ND, Kentucky, Michigan and Georgia Tech) for "piecing together a notable transfer class". I don't subscribe to BA, our notable transfers include: SS Hughes from LSU (who started his first two season at Baton Rouge), SS/CF Walsh from Ole Miss (who ranked #27 in the country out of HS, and will be a red shirt Freshman in the Spring) and P Holcomb from Penn (who was their #1 or #2 weekend starter for 3 years, and who had an outstanding Summer). There are a couple other grad transfer, but I'm sure those are the three that caught BA's attention.

RE: Baseball Recruiting
Baseball America just posted an article on CUSA recruiting classes, including a nice writeup on Rice's...
https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/...g-classes/
Quote:Rice
Recruiting coordinator: Cory Barton
Top recruit: Guy Garibay, OF
Ranking: NR
The Owls brought in several transfers from four-year schools, a group that ranked them in the top 10 transfer classes in the country thanks to the likes of righthander Mitchell Holcomb (Pennsylvania), shortstop Hal Hughes (Louisiana State) and outfielder Connor Walsh (Mississippi). But Rice also has a solid incoming freshman class with impact potential.
Garibay stands out for his offensive ability. The lefthanded hitter does a good job of barreling balls and has power potential. First baseman Nathan Becker also has a good lefthanded swing and a strong track record of production.
Righthander Micah Davis has a strong 6-foot-3, 205-pound frame and throws his fastball in the low 90s. He mixes in a good breaking ball, a combination that will help him quickly carve out a role on the Owls’ staff. Righthander Reid Gallant controls his fastball-curveball combination well and his pitchability should quickly play at Rice. Righthander Dillon Janc has a projectable 6-foot-4 frame. His fastball sits around 90 mph and he has a good breaking ball, and has significant upside as he physically develops. Righthander Matthew Linskey has a big 6-foot-7, 250-pound frame and is still a bit raw, but has a big arm and offers a lot of upside.

RE: [split] Baseball Recruiting 2021 and beyond
Guys... splitting this thread to posts beginning in September. Please feel free to quote posts from the other thread into this one if necessary, but we need to clean up old and long threads that slow the system significantly. Please put all NEW recruiting posts in this thread. Feel free to start one for 2022 and beyond if you'd like.
Thanks

No better feeling than the opportunity to put the spikes on with my brother again! With that being said, I’m excited to have signed with Rice University where I plan to pursue a MBA.
I want to thank San Jac and also my family for all their support this past year.
He was originally recruited by Texas out of high school in 2019, but never played. Not sure if he had Tommy John surgery, but he's playing this years as a Freshman at San Jac, and is currently 9-0 in 10 starts, with a 1.58 ERA and 58 Ks in 53.o IP. Oh, and he's a southpaw. Will join his brother on the Rice roster.

He's a good pitcher. Not a flamethrower but a very smart, crafty lefty. Had a great pitchers duel between him and Jackson Kiddy the other day at WCJC.

Wharton County JC hosted San Jac-North for four games played on three days over the April 6-10 period.
According to those games' box scores, Kiddy started the April 6 game, pitched 5.1 innings, gave up 3 ER (including a 2-run homer), struck out 6, walked 3 and hit a batter. No decision. (San Jac won, 7-5, in 11 innings.)
Burbank started for San Jac two games later (the first of two games played on April 10). He gave up 2 earned runs (including a solo homer), struck out 5, walked 4 and hit a batter. He got the win in San Jac's 16-5, 7-inning victory.
Stats-wise, they appear to be pretty similar pitching performances. But maybe there was a little time travel involved in their "great pitchers duel ... the other day"? :-)

You're right. I had my series mixed up. lol.....Kiddy and the Alvin pitcher had the great pitchers duel...... I sound like someone else on the board....
In that game where Kiddy gave up 3 runs, he left with 1 out in the 6th with only 1 run allowed...but the 2 on base were his responsibility and they did in fact come around to score.
Fact remains...Burbank is a good pickup...and Kiddy would have been....

I don't believe he's been mentioned here yet but it sounds like we've picked up a lefthanded infielder from McLennon JC named Ben Rosengard. He sounds like a pretty good academic pickup too (he started his collegiate career at the University of Chicago).
