CUSA and Memphis create options to play in basketball / agreement reached
Sounds like a win-win. CUSA keeps TV money and home court draw. Memphis gets half credit.

"Beginning next season and through 2018-19, any men's basketball game Memphis plays at a C-USA school - or on a neutral site, if the C-USA school owns the rights to broadcast it - will be worth half a NCAA tournament share directly to the Tigers, up to a maximum of two a season.

In 2013, NCAA tournament shares were worth $245,500..."

At least one of these game should be an annual UAB - Memphis game in honor of Gene Bartow. Each school might tip off it's season with a tournament in honor of Bartow.

Would like to see Charlotte and Memphis play again. I don't think we've played since CUSA 1.0.

I don't remember this game either, but it looks like we played New Years Eve 2011. It must have been in Memphis, attendance was +/-16K.

Man, that was a pathetic offensive showing for us that game. No wonder I don't remember it.

Kept it shockingly close to have only shot 24% from the field.

Interesting...hoping for USM and UAB. How does this work? Do the schools determine the match ups or are they dictated by TV? I can see how it's beneficial for Memphis, but what does the conference gain...two additional TV games for close to $250,000?

That the one where Bradford hit the half court shot at the buzzer to win it? The last time we played I mean.

The last time Charlotte and Memphis played in CUSA was the 2005 CUSA tournament.

On the CUSA side it's a game that CUSA and the school owns the TV rights to -- and the game can either be a CUSA home game or a neutral site, depending on the agreement. If it turns into a home and home agreement I could actually see a big segment of the Memphis fan base being in favor of this. Our AD, Tom Bowen, seems to like the deal -- which is always a good sign.

I would love to see Memphis back at the Don or the Miners at FedEx again. I miss our programs going toe to toe

I would be for UAB and Memphis playing a neutral site game in Nashville. That would be fun!

Well if I were a UAB fan I'd want the game at UAB. Otherwise I think you'd miss out on tickets sold --- unless you might also come close to 10,000 (size of Bartow Arena?) in Nashville.

Tupelo has the 10,000 seat Bancorpsouth Arena...right in between the 2 schools...Memphis played LSU there and I remember they sell beer and have several good restaurants around the arena...Memphis v UAB in Tupelo...5 year deal.

One would think that legacy and geographically proximate teams USM and UAB would play the games. But Louisville had to play games as they left the league nearly a decade ago, and I believe those games went to newbie Marshall.

I would like for WKU to get a home game with Memphis. They have been snobbing their nose at the Tops since they partnered with Louisville to keep WKU out of the Metro.

I'm sure MT is down to play Memphis in Murfreesboro, or even at the Tire Barn in Nashville, for that matter.

I'm pretty sure that when Louisville left they opted to pay the conference a million dollars rather than play CUSA picked games. Pitino said that their Big East schedule was already difficult enough (I think the real reason was that he couldn't stand the sight of Calipari, Memphis' coach at the time). Cincinnati did play the games.

Of course UAB fans would want the game at Bartow Arena. At the same time, many Memphis fans don't even want to do a home and home with UAB.

For me, it doesn't matter if UAB and Memphis ever played again. The series has been so lopsided it's borderline ridiculous.

It would kill them to have to play in the Glass House. We are....ahem... beneath them.
