at South Carolina
at Virginia Tech
at UCF
at Houston
at Memphis
at Tulane

Not at bad schedule at all.

No way should we play @ Tulane for a 3rd consecutive year.

It will at least be in their new stadium and I doubt the AAC admin care we had to travel to Tulane our last two years in CUSA.

Well, he did say return game in 2017, so the stadium will more than likely be expanded by then. Anyway, we will eventually play the Pirates it's just a matter of time.

"He" did hasn't said anything. I'm hearing Citdel, or USM/Marshall.

First I heard of USM or Marshall. Who did you hear that from?

I doubt we play either in the future unless tied to basketball series as well. Though, I could see playing USM next year as they are down so much it is pretty much a win along with being a name our fans know. However, I see little benefit in playing Marshall unless tied to basketball.

Was referring to a poster, not any official schedule/any other word of mouth, etc. Geez....

Anyway, looks like Citadel for you guys.

Don't want the Citadel, they won't sell tickets that others will.

Agreed. I want to schedule a game that should be a win so a fair-to-middling regional FCS school, Appy, or Charlotte would be my choices. As for Marshall, I would be all for it...but they are dangerous and I want to get next season off on the right foot. Let's just renew that series later.

We should never schedule UNCC, App, or ODU. There is nothing for us to gain by doing so. If they want to get the legislature involved then let them if they have the political pull like we did with UNC and NC State. Otherwise we should never make it easy for them or give them a chance to measure their program against ours.

Plus our schedule is already a joke compared to where it was 20 years ago. We only get 4 chance to play BCS schools a year as it is where as we had 5 or 6 in less games a year in 11 games back then. It's also time to get Duke and Wake back on the schedule instead of this Citadel crap.

UNC was smart not to play us for 20 some years. I mean really even this year if they had beat us what would it really have done for them? People would just say oh they were supposed to even if we had a solid season and they had a losing one. As soon as they lost their fans were ready to bury the program, people were ready to stop coming, everyone in the nation even including this board were talking about how awful they were etc etc. If they lose to LSU or beat the Citadel, or even lost to some other respectable non-BCS program instead of ECU there wouldn't have been nearly as much damage to their program as we delivered perception wise to them. It gave us a chip to recruit with against them in the same neighborhoods.

I am of the opinion you should only play teams in your division. There are plenty of bad teams around to play in your own FB division without dropping down and playing a game that does not count towards being bowl eligible. I have no problem playing UNCC, ODU or ASU (home only) when they are in the same division as ECU. Compher is the the AD and he makes the decision..but..I will never agree with this.

I'm not sure those games ever happen again as regular season games much less a season opener. Trust me, not happening. It will be an FCS program based on everything Compher is suggesting regarding his OOC scheduling philosophy.

If we were staying in this joke of a conference I'd agree. In the AAC the schedule will be improved greatly. Cincy, Houston, UCF, Navy are all solid programs. UCF and Houston will both be top 25 tomorrow. Tulsa has finished top 25 a few times recently as well. Tulane is greatly improved under Curtis Johnson. Sprinkle in our OOC of SC, VT, UNC, NCSU, BYU and WVU and there's no reason we can't open up the season vs an FCS. In fact, I think it is pretty stupid to NOT have an "easy" game to open the season going forward. This is Compher's strategy.

Schedule in......

1987
Miami
Florida State
Virginia Tech
South Carolina
North Carolina State
Illinois
West Virginia
Cincinnati
Temple
Southern Mississippi
Georgia Southern

25 years later....

2012
South Carolina
North Carolina
*Southern Mississippi
Navy
*Houston
*Central Florida
*Memphis
*Alabama-Birmingham
*Texas-El Paso
*Tulane
*Marshall
Appalachian State

Miami won the national title and FSU was 11-1. Both played in Greenville that year and we were 5-6 so it's not like we were uncompetitive. No I don't want to play UNCC with one of the only available games we have the freedom to schedule anymore. The quality of the schedules has already been gutted. It's really a joke compared to who we played in the 80's and 90's. In this new playoff system schools have a legit shot at top 4 if they actually schedule like they believe they belong and show they deserve it.

Well SJ that's great if you can actually WIN the murderers row of an OOC you want. I personally don't believe that there's any way in hell they allow a G5 into the playoff. On the other hand the Access Bowl is a very achievable goal if we're smart.

Once we expand our stadium, we should offer up a home and home. If ECU says no, then cancel the basketball series with them.

You'd be hurting yourself more if you did that moving forward. We have an advantage in recruiting now over guys like Stith and you'll need to beat us more than we need to beat you to counter that since we recruit a lot of the same players.

When we moved to old CUSA from the CAA we were the ones that dropped the UNCW series for years. There was no use in risking the loss to them either when we had the leverage and recruited many of the same players while they were good and got the Corey Rouses and others over them after. It would have helped them more than us at that point.

When are you going to get it? The American is just another Gang of Five conference, and you'll be lucky to break .500 in it. If that's your only recruiting advantage, and it's the only thing close to being an advantage for you, other than Lebo spreading the gopher powder around and chanting voodoo spells, then you're in for a world of disappointment.

It wouldn't shock me if we canceled the basketball series anyway. That's exactly what we did with UNCW for many of the same reasons when we moved to old CUSA. They were our direct competition on guys like Rouse, Fields etc and they haven't beat us on a recruit since.

I think our new practice facility is an advantage going forward too and we just renovated the arena again this summer. Guys like Stith and Guilmette already saw us as a legit option over you even before any of the other advantages kicked in.

Yea, ECU isn't in a position to cancel a bball series with anyone. I can see it for maybe logistics, but nothing else. As far as football, I can see them not wanting to play in Richardson until we expand; however, I'd imagine they've played in larger stadiums with fewer people before.

I wish ECU would cancel the series, it would open them up to playing more of their rivals Campbell, Chowan, Lenior-Rhyne.....

All I know is we got a 4 star high school player commit ed right now and that's never happened to my knowledge. You should like SMU and UCF's recruiting before you make those claims. Guys like Stith and Guilmette had already saw us as a legit option over you just by becoming competitive even before, and we never used to beat you on players.

It's apples and oranges anyway. When your football starts getting simliar rankings like our hoops both have or can draw with in 85% of ours and a similar size stadium then it would be apples to apples. I'd also be fine with ending the hoops series now like your guy brought up for the reasons I mentioned and it has been done before already with a rival.
