Someone who is student of the game likes to have some "insight" into what they are trying to do also. Some basketball fans do more than just watch them run up and down the floor. They like to know what their team is trying to do on offense and on defense. Some actually like to watch them run through various drills. And they don't necessarily find it boring....... like some "sports writers" evidently do.
While I believe that Jeff is the best beat writer we've had, let's tell it like it is, he's a homer. Have you ever seen him write something negative about UALR? No, and you won't. If he did, he wouldn't be welcome as an insider after doing so. Some writers think they know more about the game than the fans do. Sometimes sport writers give me a pain in the ass.
Lets call a spade a spade. Some of us enjoy basketball and understand what is happening from watching practice.
People that don't or never played the game at any level probably just dont understand the fine points of the game.
There is so much that goes on on the box with footwork. Never played you ll never notice.
Same thing for offensive sets and getting a shooter that half step to get a shoot off.
The sad truth of this is chris saw jerry corner one of the recruits to talk to him and chris shut it down.

This all gave the program a homey feel.
It shows in the stands with less and less fans.
Bob's been speaking the truth for years but we were high on the things on the list and over looked it.
Now we have a car that we have been saving money on not doing maintenance but the engine is smoking and it is burning oil.
