Looks like Dr. J touch a nerve.
Sounds a little too much like the company line. Only reporters need to be there. Fans have no need to be there. I agree. We have no need to be there. But answer this. How many season tickets and other financial contributions to the program each season do the reporters buy or make? It was just another one of our traditions that were wiped out by this administration. Something that made our program special, whether we won big or not. So now, if we're going to treat the fans like a big time program, maybe we should hold the program to a higher standard. Expect the program to win on a large scale. And if they don't, hold the parties responsible. Seems fair to me.
Just a few random points

1. We would go watch practice at La Tech. We set up in the stands and out of the way and did not talk to the players.

2. We got kicked out for talking to the players and the recruits.

3. Most of us that go can watch what is being ran i9n practice and know what it should look like in the game. It makes it better for me.

I love how the guys that control the program get all high and mighty with us about wanting to see practice or know what is going on.

maybe we are just better fans than most programs have.

All they would have to say ( and probably should not have to say) is stfu and stay out of the way but your welcome to come.
I didn't care for his tone in that article. Sounds like something he wrote and Chris Peterson signed off on. Someone who is student of the game likes to have some "insight" into what they are trying to do also. Some basketball fans do more than just watch them run up and down the floor. They like to know what their team is trying to do on offense and on defense. Some actually like to watch them run through various drills. And they don't necessarily find it boring....... like some "sports writers" evidently do.

While I believe that Jeff is the best beat writer we've had, let's tell it like it is, he's a homer. Have you ever seen him write something negative about UALR? No, and you won't. If he did, he wouldn't be welcome as an insider after doing so. Some writers think they know more about the game than the fans do. Sometimes sport writers give me a pain in the ass.
Jeff was a great beat writer. But he's not there anymore. I enjoy what information he provides on his blog. And if he doesn't enjoy going to practices, he doesn't have to go. It's not his job anymore. But to say that fans shouldn't be able to attend practices, for whatever reason, is totally elitist. We don't have to go. Some of us just enjoyed going once in awhile.
And if we need to stay away from the players and recruits, that's fine. I could live with that. And what in the world could we say on the board that would give an advantage to other teams. I'll guarantee that by the time they play us, they will know a heck of a lot more about our team's tendencies than they could ever learn on this board. I'm flattered that our administration thinks what we say here is important. Obviously it's not important enough to make an effort to change the policy.

Lets call a spade a spade. Some of us enjoy basketball and understand what is happening from watching practice.

People that don't or never played the game at any level probably just dont understand the fine points of the game.

There is so much that goes on on the box with footwork. Never played you ll never notice.

Same thing for offensive sets and getting a shooter that half step to get a shoot off.

The sad truth of this is chris saw jerry corner one of the recruits to talk to him and chris shut it down.

THEY KILLED

Practice

This all gave the program a homey feel.

It shows in the stands with less and less fans.

Bob's been speaking the truth for years but we were high on the things on the list and over looked it.

Now we have a car that we have been saving money on not doing maintenance but the engine is smoking and it is burning oil.

If welcoming a student athlete to your campus by just saying hello to him or her is a sin, then there's something wrong with the system. Nothing was offered but a normal gesture of welcome. Guess that rates high on the "wrong" meter. All someone had to say was that although they knew it was an innocent mistake, and explained that fans aren't allowed to speak to a prospective recruit, that would have been the end of it. But no. They had to close practices. And if it's a violation, how can the Razorbacks take recruits to the cafe in Fayetteville, where all the fans are welcoming him. And don't tell me someone doesn't speak to the recruit. So if it's such a big deal, how do they promote it and write about it?
Something about this just stinks.
