RE: The Official Downtown Baseball Stadium Discussion Thread
Latest news from El Paso Inc.
Originally, the expectation was that the 2-percent increase in the city’s hotel occupancy tax, which voters approved in November, would more than cover the payments on the bonds.
But because of the higher interest rates and the shorter term on the taxable bonds, Arrieta-Candelaria said the city will likely have to contribute some money from the city’s general fund to the bond payments for about 10 years.

I seriously doubt that.
If you take into account what the original estimate to renovate City Hall and include the original price of the stadium and compare that to the current cost of the stadium and current estimates of relocating City Hall, I think those numbers have gone up significantly.

Remember, mountain star doubled their rent. Also, the city can recall the bonds at any time, so if the risk free rate drops at any time, they can recall the bonds and reissue new ones. Also, it is anticipated that the bonds could be paid off ten years in advance if city leaders choose to go that route.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda.
You just summed up El Paso's economic situation in a nut shell.

I'm assuming what I said was over your head, hence your response. What, did they not cover this in "rich dad, poor dad"?

That is a matter of opinion.
For the most part, I am over the fact that city council did such a piss poor job of getting a baseball stadium.
I will enjoy going to games in the future. I
I can't speak for those however who think this was a bad idea.

Actually, it is not an opinion. It is a fact, that when trying to generate discussion, you quite often were reduced to "this could happen", "what if", and "it's possible." That is not my opinion. It is all over the downtown threads.

I'm sorry you feel that way.
I'm just sick of El Paso continuously bowing to the good ol boy system and never really making any progress.

bowing to the good ol boy system? It's been your system at work for generations that has kept El Paso back. You guys have no vision, no drive and fear change. Nothing gets done with people like Robinson and Holguin. Look at one of the first big things El Paso was going to get, the Olympic trials pool. Your kind of people protested against it, stopped it's construction halfway through it and we got stuck with hole in the ground costing us millions that we couldn't be used for anything. Your type of people have held El Paso back for far too long now.

Front page news
El Paso Downtown ballpark may cost an additional $10 million
MountainStar Sports Group, which has promised to bring a Triple-A baseball team to El Paso, told city officials on Saturday that the construction of the Downtown ballpark will cost up to $10 million more.
In an email to Mayor Oscar Leeser, Joshua Hunt, a member of the MountainStar Sports Group, said that the $64 million currently budgeted for the ballpark "likely will not be sufficient to complete construction."

Why did you not include the part where Mountain Star is willing to reimburse the city for anything in excess of $64M?
If you teach History, I hope you don't give your students only partial coverage of History. But it wouldn't surprise me.

Take from a fan in a city that finally has one...It's worth it, especially if the team's residing in it are going to be competitive and successful, Birmingham has the "2013 Ballpark Of The Year" in Regions Park downtown, it has been magical, for lack of a better term. I encourage El Paso to go for it and enjoy it, it's only going to enhance the allure of your already beautiful city.
