Hell, whatever is considered cool will become "white culture" eventually.
False. Like all all countries with a history, we have an established culture. We are entitled and obligated to preserve that. We have an assimilation process for a reason. You comments only demonstrate your justification in bypassing that process.
I haven't advocated bypassing assimilation, it's just that people have a false view of how assimilation occurs. It happens across generations, not the day they move here.
It is supposed to happen before we grant anyone citizenship. Why is this a hard concept?
No they're supposed to be willing to be Americans and able to know enough about America then. We don't tell them to forget their language, drop their religion, stop eating their food, or change their way of dress. Those will end up being influences on our cultures.
I may be getting your definition of assimilation wrong though.
OK. I'm going to really try to simply this for you. I take it you have never lived near our southern border.
When someone applies for US citizenship they must meet a certain criteria. They must pass certain background checks, learn English and take courses on American history...etc. They must go through an assimilation process. This imparative and put in place for a reason.
There are approximately 2,700 illegals coming across our southern border each day. About 300 of those are apprehended. Most of those are released within our borders.
Here are the stats for one southwestern state.
-There were an estimated 278,460 illegal aliens working in Arizona in 2011, approximately 9.3 percent of the total workforce.
-Unemployment in Arizona in January 2012 was 8.7 percent with 262,587 Arizonans officially unemployed.
-Over 10% of children enrolled in public schools (K-12) have parents who are in the U.S. illegally.
-Illegal aliens and their children were found to be 37 percent of the uninsured population in Arizona in 2008, and the cost of uncompensated care for illegal aliens in Arizona is $320 million annually.
-The total education, medical, and incarceration costs in Arizona due to illegal immigration are $2.6 billion a year.
Think about how those numbers have risen in 2013
There are places in Phoenix, and any town in the SW where entire sections are completely Spanish Speaking. In other words, you wouldn't be able to conduct your daily life there. All due illegal immigration
So what is this about assimilation? Will English speaking people start moving into these areas and reverse it?
