RE: Why IN HELL WON'T SOMEONE TELL NIKE................
Yeah, lets rush to a slippery slope argument because you can't make valid points standing on their own merit.
Professional design firms miss the mark, just like professional marketing firms... I like our blue and gray colors, but just like their was no exact color for even the northern or southern armies (since that is where our tradition comes from, right?!!), I don't see us HAVING to have one color, especially a dark navy blue for Memphis to have tradition.
Maryland, Oregon, Boise St, TCU, Florida State, South Carolina have all seen dramatic uptics in sales since they changed uniforms, added colors or combat versions of their uniforms. I bet if I actually researched it, many more school have prospered from having multiple uniforms and color combinations sales wise than those that don't.
I could give two cares less what Georgetown did, has or will do unless they play us on the court. Pass that a northern law school has NO bearing on my opinon.

Better late than never. There was no official brand standard 40 years ago. Now that the university has finally wised up and had one developed by professional design firms and approved by university authorities it is time to use it as far as practical. Georgetown's colors were chosen for exactly the same reason as ours. They got it right - we can too.
If colors and tradition don't matter, and we like black so much, let's drop the Tiger nickname (it came 30 years after blue and gray) to the Raiders and change the colors to black and silver (since we can't agree on the shade of blue). I personally think tradition is important, but it might be worth the change to have a consistent image which perhaps even our athletic department would honor.
So Georgetown has it right do they? Then can you explain why they have over 8 different shades of navy on their "Official" Athletics Store Page?

I don't see a single Georgetown shirt with a blue lighter than dark royal. Certainly, there are no Nike blues. The NCAA shirt doesn't count.

Im still upset we didnt wear the FedEx jerseys. That could have opened an entirely new window to advertising and progression of the Memphis name.

Are we seriously pointing to the time when we played High Schools as our "tradition"?!
In the early 2000s, we were voted one of the 10 best uniforms in NCAA, we must've been doing something right. I don't think anyone is trying to change the colors to black, red and silver... or orange and black.... or anything else. Our colors ARE blue and gray and our uniforms DO reflect this as they are today!!!!
Do you have a link?

That would destroy the brand... our tradition would be over.... mass hysteria in the streets... lions laying down with lamgs and all other types of Biblical stuff.
Unless we won the national championship that year.... then, well, all bets are off.

Then your monitor is broken... I see multiple shirts (not counting the NCAA shirt) that have at least a med royal blue. Their pick a sport, big and tall, rising bar, hoop tri blend, vault v-neck just to start. Plus multiple shades of gray... PLUS BLACK, which is NOT one of their school colors, and even GREEN (how is their brand and tradition credible).... And yet, you endorsed them?!!

So it's okay if they show 8 different shades of blue in their official store, as long as none are as light as royal blue? Where does it say that in our brand standard document? How about the 6 different shades of gray on display?
And Georgetown's colors are supposed to be the same as ours. Except, as someone else pointed out, the Union and the Confederacy never had consistent shades of gray and blue.
I just think you're fighting a battle that no other university in this country actually worries about.

Honestly man, im trying to be patient and help you understand somethings, but if you dont see the more than 8 different shades of blue, than I cant even continue to talk to you about it in a calm manner. Thats just silly.

I may have to switch to a Georgetown fan. I like their blue(s) so much better.
PS- I can't wait to see GA pop when we unveil the new helmets.
