Tell me why that other than he top 10 kids from PA are worth recruiting? Keeping the top 5 in PA and Pitt is certainly imperative, but I'd still rather have a 3* out of Mississippi or Florida than a 4* from PA.
Ok. No problem. However, I simply think it's easier to convince kids to come to Pitt from ACC (including Va, NC, SC, Ga, and Florida) and Big 10 territory than it would be from Mississippi, Louisiana, or Texas.

If Pitt was located in say Richmond, I'd be pissed if Pitt only got 4 or 5 VA kids a year as well. Fact of the matter is that local recruiting doesn't get the job done anymore. One of the few things Graham did was well that he recognized the need to recruit the south more than the program did in the past.
I get what you're saying to a degree, but here's what I'm not understanding:
PA produced at least 54 scholarship-worthy football players on National Signing Day, 2014 (according to Rivals) - LINK to my analysis. 10 of them were 4 & 5 star players. But Only 2 of those signed with Pitt, and 1 signed with PSU; the other 7 went out of state - 3 to freakin' SEC schools! If the SEC can come in and cherry pick PA talent, and you're going to try to make that up by signing 2 and 3 star players from Mississippi, you're going to lose that deal!
Link to my analysis of player migration.
We probably will... but what can you do. Robert Foster was ready to commit to Pitt at 8AM in the morning the day he announced he was going to Bama! A bag of cash and a car for daddy showed up 45 minutes before he was set to announce. How can Pitt compete with that?

Quick, but not sustainable. If you want to dominate your region, and more importantly, beat Penn State in recruiting and on the field, you need the best PA talent. Not only does that keep them away from the Nitt-Wits, but it also gives you players who will be passionate about the game (not a bunch of mercenaries from Mississippi who care more about getting back to the BBVA Compass Bowl than beating local teams like Youngstown St. - hey, I'm just saying!)
No, he was an arrogant jerk who didn't respect Western PA football. Every high school football connection that I have had locally said whenever Graham spoke to local coaches all he wanted to discuss was Texas High School football.

I agree that you have to make PA recruiting a priority & then start planting seeds in states like NC,VA,FL & GA. at UNC each coach has a area of the state they recruit first & then branch out to other areas, it also might help if you become a little creative(UNC has a elite camp they dub Fedora's Freak Show) which atleast helps get some of the top prospects on campus

We picked up a bunch of recruits this week including a 4 star OL and a 3 star QB and a couple of good looking athletes.

RE: A New Approact to Recruiting
I'm of the opinion that the kids from PA, OH, NJ and NY are NOT inferior to kids in the southeast. I don't agree with CP that a 3 star from Miss is better than a 4 or 5 star from PA. What I think has caused this perception among a number of Pitt fans is that the quality of the coaching that the Pitt football program has been subjected to has been the true culprit. It's not the quality of the kids - physically - coming into the program. It was the inability of the Wanny and Graham led coaching staffs to effectively develop the talent on the roster.
Walt Harris did not make his big pushes into FL to take 2 and 3 star kids because he thought these kids were superior to the 4 and 5 star PA players. He simply couldn't pull the local talent in, so by necessity he had to go into FL to take the kids that the bigger programs did not want. I am probably a more upbeat guy than most when it comes to Pitt FB, but I'm inclined to give PC the benefit of the doubt and put faith that he can put together and develop a good to great FB team.

Couldn't say. I've heard this before Dokish mentioned it but thought it was funny. My best guess is that it's a player that hasn't received a schollie and feels he deserves one.
