That probably means an elevator....

I understand that the stadium has to have ADA compliance for stadium seating, concession and restroom facilities. The remaining areas of the structure would have been grand fathered in (press box). It would not have to meet ADA standards. If however any part of the original stadium is torn down, many other factors will enter into the picture for overall building codes and accessibility requirements, as well as ADA regulations, All areas would then be on the table and require that no area of the stadium could be restrictive for ADA members accessibility.

I think not only would elevator(s), have to be installed but more ramp accessibility and fire code requirements would have to be enhanced. With the increase in attendance numbers this all becomes much more complicated, with the alternatives of an expansion from an existing structure or a demolition and replacement decision.

Interesting possibilities. Financing may become an issue with state funds for a new facilities.

I am looking forward to the announcement. I am also afraid that this will not all be resolved and finished till around 2016 or later?

At least 2016. I don't expect to have any plans impact the stadium or our seating until the next reseating occurs. They got everyone locked in for 4 years at their donation level right now. That's easy to do the books for 4 years of steady recurring incoming.

RE: ODU Master Plan
JMU announced their stadium expansion in January of 2008. The expansion was completed by the start of the 2011 season.

If we use that as a reasonable timeline, the stadium expansion should be completed by 2016.

If capacity is still the same in 2016, they are missing out on striking while the iron is hot IMO.

It will hamper recruiting and that will have a huge negative effect on everything. Performance on the field, perception from incoming recruits, other Conference Schools. It is a big mistake to let this go on past 2015.....2016. It would harm the momentum that has already mushroomed into the excitement we have.

ECU starting looking at expansion after they accepted the invite to the AAC. They have not only announced stadium expansion to 60,000 up from 50,000. They are looking at a having the work completed by the end of 2014, so that the opening of the 2015 season the stadium will have been completed!

RE: ODU Master Plan
ECU's already got an established stadium, they're just bolting on some extra seats. What we're looking at could have major destruction and construction involved. Comparing apples to oranges if you ask me. If 2016 is the finish date (both sides completed, 35K+, with up to date locker rooms, press boxes, and other amenities (like more bathrooms or a larger band storage room), then I'd say that would be a huge success.

RE: ODU Master Plan
Disagree. Throw up some makeshift, temporary seating (doesn't have to be pretty, just close the end zone horseshoe with cheap seats) if need be but get that to 35k by the start of CUSA play and use Heinicke's senior year to market and springboard this thing to a new, large, big boy stadium that can be build while playing in Foreman. You don't increase the fan base by limiting supply and making it so you have to be rich to attend a game and it would be a waste of money to make Foreman pretty at 35k with no room to expand from there.

Remember somewhere at the beginning of the cusa move. Cusa gave us until 2016 to comply with updated stadium requirements. I guess that was good estimate of a timeline.

Sharp eye, I missed that one. Looks like Georgia Southern replaced UNT in the logo.

I wouldn't totally destroy it. At the rate things are going, who knows if it will be accurate next month?

I grew up about 30 miles from Denton, Texas. They will always be the North Texas State University Eagles to me.

I just noticed that you have the ODU marching band website on there as well. Nice! Although, you could use the shorter http://www.odu.edu/mmb instead. But either way, that's awesome!

Thanks.....I will change.

I did that because of you and all the other loyal band members to show my appreciation. Thanks for your dedication and hard work!

Bringing lite rail from its present location to ODU would a collossal undertaking. Not sure how they would make that happen. But if they do we can kick like they did in 1915.

RE: ODU Master Plan
BOLD CAMPUS MASTERPLAN PREDICTION

After re-reading the VA-Pilot article of 3/19/12, and several of the other pdf's found here http://www.odu.edu/about/planning/masterplan I have come up with what I consider to be a bold prediction for what the upcoming masterplan will contain.

The housing off Powhatan Ave. (Powhatan Apts. and Whitehurst Hall) were built in 1978 and 1983 respectively, and both will probably be razed. My first thought regarding this (along with several other posters) was this would be an ideal spot for our new stadium. After considering traffic flow to the site, and the probable high cost of extending 49th. St. all the way down, I no longer think that is very likely. I believe a combination of new dorms and riverside greenspace is more likely here.

I then looked at the space behind Larchmont Elementary School (another favorite stadium site of many posters.) I googled Norfolk Public Schools replacement list and found a couple of interesting links. In July of 2012 a friend of the program (Steve Ballard) proposed to the City of Norfolk that his company S.B Ballard be contracted to replace four schools, including Larchmont Elementary http://hamptonroads.com/2012/07/contract...ew-schools. According to this http://www.sbballard.com/news_detail.php? news=45 it appears that S.B.Ballard got that contract.
The area looks large enough, without having to ask WHRO to move, especially if the new Larchmont E.S. is aligned more closely to Hampton Blvd. I think ODU's new stadium eill have an opening day capacity of 35, 000, and will be expandible to 50, 000. If this turns out to be the case it solves the promlem of having to take our time and build the stadium in phases,

If the new football stadium is going to be on the other side of Hampton Blvd. old Forman Field/S.B.Ballard will be torn down to make way for new high rise dorms, academic buildings (as needed,) and a new light rail station.

Webb center will get a complete redux, with many of it's offices and services moving elsewhere on campus.

Finally, those in charge of the old monorail project will have to get it up and running soon, or it too will face the bulldozers.

* These are just predictions based on some study, ideas from some of my fellow posters, and a few tidbits I found snooping around the interwebs. Feel free to disagree, add, or whatever.
