This sucks and it's going to get worse. People will no longer feel safe at future marathons, parades, and other events that draw large crowds. What will they do with other marathons around the country, lock down the entire route a week before the event? Not possible.

Thanks.

It's not ridiculous to sepculate who did the crime.... it's still a free country.

No, but this is ridiculous to speculate at this point.

Your so PC.... It's a free country and i am free to wonder about the timing of the bombs. Ethiopiens and Kenyans dominate these marathons...it is not rascist to wonder if the bomber waited for them to pass from the area...

I also said it seemed to be domestic...does that make me anti american?

Most competing Ethiopians are Christian.

Ever since 9-11, I've had a wary eye on the New Years Eve celebrations in Times Square, always jammed full of people in the dark, broadcast around the world, etc. Sad statement on humanity that these are the thoughts that occupy one's mind when witnessing a joyous event.

I remember asking that same question when Gabby Giffords was shot. In that instance, the media's answer turned out to be (basically) "No"

Not sure how Boston handles things, but I'm pretty sure NYC basically shuts down all free access to the area well in advance and then has constant security sweeps of the area.

I was also trying to think if 4-15 represented anything and immediately thought of Tax Day. For a second I thought it might've been Hitler's birthday - the same day of the Columbine massacre - but that's still a few days away.

But there's probably no connection to the date. It's an outdoor event, reasonably popular, plenty of people milling around, plenty of cameras on... perfect for a nutjob to get his claim to fame.

April 15 is like a super huge North Korea holiday.

Pretty sure it was because of the Pocotaligo Massacre on April 15, 1715 that triggered the start of the Yamasee War in colonial South Carolina.

The word is that it was a "Tax Day" terrorists attack.

What other "Tax Day" terrorists attacks have occurred? This is all new to me.

Those comments were from a RW-er. So it was certainly an attempt at humor.

Birthday of Kim Il-sung, the NK dictator from 1948-1994.

On 4/15/69, North Korea shot down a US Navy jet (EC-121) resulting in 31 fatalities. We never could figure out precisely why they did it. Nixon was president and basically did nothing out of concern that a major retaliation would make things worse in Vietnam. Later said that non-response was one of his biggest regrets as president, as well it should've been.

Fair enough. Don't know the proclivities of everyone just yet.

In Boston, or maybe all of Ma. it's Patriots Day. So makes one wonder. Hope this isn't some nutjob doing his "Patriotic" duty.
