With Marshall having a LONG winning season streak (like USM), having a terrible coaching hire (like USM), and having a rebuild job (like USM), it really doesn't happen overnight. I think USM is looking at a longer road back that most are expecting (even with the new conference members),

I think Tulsa is the conference favorite and should be stronger than everyone in the east. The ECU@Marshall winner the last week of the season will win the East.

The difference between USM and our situation is that they aren't on sanctions, nor did their poor coaching choice last 4 years.

Snyder was just the "Fall Guy". No one was going to win that much from 05-11. We were just lucky one of our OOPS hires was at that time too. At one time we were down to 67 scholarship players (2006).

Do I need to stop posting since either my points are not read or given thought? Really? 4 mos. ago we "couldn't afford to fire EJ" according to almost every USM poser...yeah, that was intentional.

This is business. Sometimes you bite it and sometimes you get bit. Weigh out the negatives and move forward with that information. I laughed at the "too broke" posers then. Your excuse is 4 YEARS of suffering....who are you guys...freakin' Notre Dame????. Take care of your house as best you can, but the excuse stuff is not an option in my handbook.

What do you know? You said Houston would have no drop off after losing Keenum and your coaching staff. Also said that Marshall had no shot of beating you last year.

ECU beat Marshall last year in Greenville in a shootout only because they came through on a 4th and 10 late in the game. They will not beat Marshall in Huntington this year. If Marshall beats MTSU on the road they will win the east.

Rice will win the west. Marshall will host the championship game.

LoL you act like Marshall is unbeatable in Huntington. Yes, I know a decade ago or so you had some ungodly good home record... we always play eachother close since Ruff came aboard... this year should be no different. I seriously doubt Marshall makes a title game while there is still Purple blood in the East division. WE may not make it, but if we don't... you won't either. 05-stirthepot MTSU in that case.

Facts: ECU is 2-2 @ Marshall and 4-0 @ ECU.........ECU 6-2 overall against Marshall (Cusa Eight Year History); therefore, ECU can win @ Marshall. ECU has won two Cusa Championships (one home to Houston/one @Tulsa) to Marshall N0 Cusa Championship so ECU is use to playing in the BIG game, too. I still think the Cusa Championship will be settle long before ECU 12th game of season. If ECU does not win championship I will be pulling for Marshall (east) and USM (west)........may best team win:) <opinion>

Birmingham would be a great place for it, if we could be sure Gene Hallman wouldn't bump it at the last minute for a Justin Beiber concert.

Glad to see respect for my Owls, but I'd have to say Tulsa is the favorite right now. They've done it before, we haven't.

RE: Is Tulsa the favorite to repeat in CUSA next Fall???
I would think Tulsa has a good shot at it, but as we all know things don't always follow expectations. I would certainly not rule out USM, Marshall, MTSU or La. Tech. Yes Marshall has struggled the last few seasons but with their history, never count them out. I know USM will be back but it might take a season or two to get all the way back, and La. Tech seems to have started a solid program so even going into a season with a lot of new players they can't be written off. MTSU is very dangerous. Also ECU has to be considered as the front runner in the East Division.

Marshall plays well at home. Having UAB, USM and ECU gives us an edge. My concern is MTSU, that could easily be a loss. We play at Tulsa as well, likely another loss.

Rice should be very solid. I think La Tech lost too much to win it in 2013. We'll see.

If Marshall can stay healthy and improve our D, I dont see why we couldnt win the east.

As a Rice fan, I am irrationally confident. In spite of the conference office giving Rice the shaft in scheduling the game in Tulsa, the cards are stacked in Rice's favor in 2013 (seriously, with about ... what 12 games that pit returning members against each other intra-division, they can't figure out how to schedule them such that they fit the alternate home-away paradigm). Tulsa has about the toughest path to the division championship among the favorites to win a division, especially in the West.

Cusa is known as a conference for spread offensive and poor defensive. I think staying healthy and improved defense will be the receipt for several teams to win football title next season. I would like to wish all teams good luck and may best team both on offense and defense wins:)

I do like ECU chances especially playing both USM and Tulsa at home;
however, to be the man (Cusa Champs) you have to beat the man (Tulsa). I will be pulling for ECU first, Marshall second, MTSU third in east......USM first, Tulsa second, and UL third in west.

Well USM is in the east for at least one more year. UL plays in the Sun Belt or A-12, depending on the UL.

That's funny...who can keep up with this merry-go-round? Hell, I know I can't....

To OP....don't overlook Rice this year. It just may be their time to shine.

Ok first of all, I read the article that was linked on my OP. Second, Rice is not intimidating and I believe we host you. I will say conference schedule was a little slanted against us. Think we win it though. IMO

Not sure if you are talking to me, but USM doesn't play TU this year.

I believe Rice's backfield will give them opportunities to win more that lose this year.

No worries, It was late and I think I was drifting off...They(Rice) have a good backfield, but Tulsa has a better one returning, IMO. Our big power back is gone to graduation but we have a really nice kid who will get more opportunities and will be really good. I think our QB will be more efficient and receivers will be really tough to defend! Our D-Fence will actually be pretty good, even though the D-Line will be new they will be great by the mid season.
