IMPORTANT: East Tennesseean article about SGA Football Vote 1-28-13
Right now I can only find the JPEG of it, because they haven't posted the PDF version on their site yet, but here is what came across my twitter feed from the East Tennesseean:

RE: East Tennesseean article about SGA Football Vote 1-28-13
"If the legislation passes, the school can propose the idea of the football team to the Tennessee Board of Regents,' Ahmad said. 'It was an idea we both thought was important to be discussed since having a team could possibly bring school pride for the students.' 'If it [football legislation] gets voted down, then from what my understanding is, it will not go through.' Ahmed said it is her understanding that the university requires approval from the SGA in order to move forward with reinstating football. The legislation calls for $125 per semester increase in student fees to fund the program."

the vote is Tuesday

You better make contacts! Here's the cabinet:

http://www.etsu.edu/sga/executive/cabinet.aspx

Be reasonable, be mannerly, and make your case.

From what I know, pretty sure Iqra is for it, and I know Leah is for it. I know Johnny Ameen as well (secy of allocations). I will contact him right now and get his take, but I'm pretty sure he is also for it. I'll find out for sure.

Everyone needs to come out! It is a PUBLIC forum. My roommate is a senator that strongly supports football but he thinks it will be voted down. We all news to come out and voice our support. I for one will be there!

Might be a dumb question, but I assume this is an SGA vote and not a student body vote, correct?

Indeed... The future of the University should not be put into the hands of people voted into office according to how many lollipops and free t shirts they gave out outside of Sherrod during election week.

I am confused. I thought there was not going to be (or needed to be) any kind of vote? What am I missing here?

RE: East Tennesseean article about SGA Football Vote 1-28-13
This is so dumb. Everyone forgets to remember that football is not just for the students, its for the alumni as well. I am a lot more inclined to travel to johnson city if I know there is a game going on than not. I am much more inclined to recommend the university to my kids or the kids that I teach and coach if I know they will have something to do. This is a very short sighted approach to have the sga vote it in if you ask me. Does anyone know why the SGA has to be involved? When I was there, nobody ran for SGA, it was pretty much if you ran you got in, and they did a royal job of screwing stuff up, especially financially.

RE: East Tennesseean article about SGA Football Vote 1-28-13
just got this back from one of the SGA cabinet members...I emailed them:
"Thank you for putting an interest into what is going on with the students at ETSU. Even though you are no longer an active student on our campus, it warms my heart to hear Alumni having an interest in what's happening on our campus! Even though I am not a voting member in the Senate, I would like to pass this along to those who are, if that is okay with you. I completely agree with bringing back football. I would love to have the game day experience I see at other schools here at ETSU. I feel that what you have told me can definitely help our fight in the Senate!

Thank you so much for your thoughts! Hopefully on Tuesday, I will be able to say that the students want football back at ETSU!"

The cabinet members do not vote, only the legislative members, which I dont think there is a list.

RE: East Tennesseean article about SGA Football Vote 1-28-13
Deep breaths guys... Deep breaths...

The SGA vote is not binding but if Dr. Noland takes a positive vote with him to Nashville, the TBR likes to have the student's input on fee increases.

With that said, I don't think it would be done if there had not been careful attention to the vote count behind closed doors. The President doesn't need a vote to ask for the fee increase and I doubt the SGA President and Vice President would put up the resolution if they weren't confident they could pass it.

BUT... Tweet, email, call, take cookies, buy them a beer... whatever needs to be done... Students need to get the word out and GO TO THE MEETING... the @BringBackBucFB account has gone nuts with Tweets and RT's... thanks to the folks on this board who are making that happen on the Twitter!!

I know of at least one person on the SGA who is, at this present moment, against bringing back football. He cites monetary reasons as to why he is against voting for footballs restoration.

I understand his concern, but I read this comment on the East Tennessean's FB: " Heidi, last time it was supposed to cost the students another 200-300 dollars. the vote failed, but the following and since semesters we have had a 300$ activities fee placed anyway. its not a matter of cost, the community around JC is full of alumni and supporters ready to throw money at the program, we just need to say we want it."

Here we go again. Unbelievable. All the anti football people will come out in full force. Sure there are a lot for it, but there are even more who are indifferent. They don't know what they are missing out on. This could end very badly. GEEZ.
