That Ahmad person is clueless. They seem certain that football can only go forward if the SGA approves it. Does she really think a student goverment has that kind of power? lol

Indeed... The future of the University should not be put into the hands of people voted into office according to how many lollipops and free t shirts they gave out outside of Sherrod during election week.

I have been saying that since about the 1990s.

Only at ETSU!

And please, Marcus, do not go finding out that at Northeastern Iowa Jr. Tech the student government president made a strong speech supporting the school start fielding a bowling team as evidence that "SEE! IT DOES HAPPEN ELSEWHERE!"

I think my point is made.

It appears to me the student senate is doing this on there own. I'm not sure if President Noland is asking for them to vote. In the long run will it really matter how this vote goes?

Hopefully not, but again...the more positive backing...the less resistance Noland and Sander will meet. This almost seems more to be politically correct if it did come from Noland, than an actual make or break vote

Your right, the more support the better, but the bigger picture is what needs to take center stage. And the return of football in the long run will make the us much stronger. And I think Dr. Noland realizes that.

Surely Dr. Noland and Dr. Sander aren't stupid enough to allow CHILDREN to make decisions that grown ups need to make. ETSU SGA is largely a joke and should have all the consideration of a Johnson City Press online poll.

What exactly is the SGA voting on? The proposed fee increase? Does anyone have a link to the actual proposed bill, legislation or whatever they are calling it that is being voted on???

I spoke with someone today with very close connections with the SGA today- I dont think this vote is coming from Noland. And I dont think it will pass.

It sounds as if Stanton people are still active on campus and they are trying to bring back his nightmare "vote". No vote should be used other than for information and the schoold must move forward into its future.

Perhaps I'm being a bit naive but my instinct tells me this vote doesn't matter either way.

Any school that would let it count either way is in not in any way a major state university thinking about growing and improving and becoming something much, much greater.

I hope you're right. I'll be interested to see how Noland handles this if it goes badly.

The Goldfinger instinct is a powerful tool. I really don't think it's going to make one bit of difference. This strikes me as a show. Nothing more.

I basically agree with that statement. But im telling ya, ultimately it wont succeed unless someone fixes the student interest problem. They are not on board with football at an increased cost to them. If it were football at no costs to them, very few would show up. Every time ive said that people think im negative. But instead, we need to face that reality and fix it. I think Noland is trying to do that.

The dirty little secret is that you can put up all the ETSU Pride signs that you want, but there is actually very little ETSU Pride. The students here aren't involved with ETSU and that needs to change. Hopefully Noland realizes that they don't know what they are missing out on.

Is this vote being conducted independent of the ETSU administration, or is it being conducted at the request of the ETSU administration?

That's not negative. I think there is a LOT of truth to that. I will probably address it later. I was only referring to this little student government vote.

Gold- I hope you're right, but the thing that could happen is that if the vote doesn't pass, then you will always have people saying "The students don't want this and you can't ask them to fund it!"

Now, as far as student support, that should be a minimal consideration. We should be focusing on community support and making the Buccaneers as synonymous with the Tri-Cities as the Buckeyes are with Columbus.

Unfortunately, however, I would state the feeling of loss the Tri-Cities feel from the demise of ETSU football is overwhelmingly small.

They're not missing out on a damn thing at this moment in time.
