Hawk post game excuse thread
Hey, we had a lot of good shots within the flow of the new offense...just couldn't knock them down, long bus trip, tired legs, long layoff, need a home game, blah, blah, blah!

05-mafia NO HE DID NOT. He said worse game we've played all year. Bigs played tenative, guards didn't go hard to rim etc. Nothing said about tired legs etc etc. Give the man a break. He called like it was. No excuses.

Come on man, 83 was making a prediction based on 10 years of listening to Hawkins make post game excuses. I'm as shocked as anyone that Hawk would tell it like it is, but he probably feels secure knowing he has 4 years left on his contract.

I was PREDICTING his comments. My bad. He did say he "can't wait to get home" and he quoted my "1 home game in 41 days" thread (I feel proud kinda). In actuality, he mostly just blamed the players and called them "soft".

"they know they did not play aggressively and I'm sure they are embarrassed about the way they played. It's very disappointing."

"we were just throwing the ball in the area of the basket. We deserved exactly the result we got tonight."

From a tactical standpoint I think most MAC coaches own Hawk. However, he recruits enough talent to keep him employed, but he'll NEVER win a MAC Championship or even get to the final game no matter how long his career lasts.

The team he inherited and won the championship with is one of the most talented I've seen in the MAC in the last 20 years, and even then it barely won the league and did nothing in the NCAA. Donawald did more with less than Hawk ever could.

I saw a lot of Donawalds Bronc teams, and many times they were fun to watch. I really believe he was able to teach the players things. One thing that I noticed Donawald teams were always good at was knocking the ball away from a dribbler. Plus he developed some shooters. And I personally love teams that can flat our shoot the rock. It demoralizes the heck out of opponents. Wish we had some of that now.

We seem to be lacking shooters. Guys with stones that will pull up from 5 feet behind the arc and nail it. Think Reed, Rost, Kool, Drews, and Wolf.

Hopefully the addition of Svete and Haymond will help in this area next season and moving forward. Until then, we need to dominate inside and on defense.

One thing I have noticed, and it's been mentioned before, WMU and the MAC doesn't necessarily get the same type of recruits that we did 10+ years ago. A lot of players are heading out of state. The A10 has gotten a lot of guys. This didn't happen as much in the 80's and 90's. Our talent has been diluted.

Every DI HS recruit can shoot the ball. That's one of the reasons they are coveted at this level. For the most part it's a mindset once they get here. Yeah, a defender can get a hand in their face a little quicker, and they are one of five players now, rather than "being the man" as they were in HS.

The key when shooting threes is to understand that they often come in spurts, and because a lower shooting percentage from three is okay, you have to be patient as a coach. You don't yank a guy the second he's missed two in a row, or as in Hawks case, you dont yank them when they've MADE three in a row.

Unless you are indispensable Hawkins will yank you if you miss a couple from three. And then he's often so caught up in fatigue and combinations, that he starts subbing players in and out without considering whether the guy coming out had a hot hand. If Hawk would have coached the Pistons Vinnie Johnson would have just been another guy on the bench.

This is why with 4 season Tix I haven't been to a game this year. I got so tired of sitting with fans and watching hawk pull Kool after hitting 3 str8 shots or calling time outs when we go on an 8-0 run. Hawk is a "cooler" he will spend his retirement working for indian casinos. Ii have seen him beat other coaches to time outs when we go on runs.

I have gotten frustrated with Cubit at times but hawk drives me ******* nuts.

RE: Hawk post game excuse thread
Hawk thinks if a guy is a 40% 3 shooter, and he hits 2 straight shots, statistically he will miss the next 3 shots.

In terms of math, he is correct about that. Time to get that player out of the game.

But it is not a math competition, it is basketball.
